It’s a seemingly trivial feature, but Twitter’s lack of a search function led me and others to use Google or other search engines to try to figure out someone’s Twitter page. Today they’ve added that feature and allow search via name or other profile information (location, bio, and url).
It seems that Twitter has become much more stable since the launch of competitors like Pownce, Jaiku, Yappd and others. And now we’re getting new feature releases too. The wonders of competition.

Is it just me or is Twitter’s momentum built from SXSW has been deflating for a while? I haven’t used it in a while and unless something really compels me to, you can only update so much about what you are having for dinner.
I am not using Twitter yet, but having built-in search is a good feature - even if it is just using Google Coop.
If facebook just updated their “status” feature a little, they could totally be the Twitter killer. At least for those who’s not interested in broadcasting to the world, but only to your trusted network!
Twitter is like crack. You keep coming back even if you don’t fully understand why. Sure, those other services might be prettier and fancier, but you always come back to the crack that first got you addicted.
On People search Spoke is doing much better. Twitter is doing best in broadcasting. Focusing on its core functionality will help to retain image. If you want to compete mean, not necessarily you should compete is non-core business.

What I can’t believe nobody has mentioned is that Twitter having search isn’t entirely new. They had it a long time ago, then it disappeared: http://www.anotherblogger.com/.....e-existed/
The marketing potential of Twitter and other similar services is huge. 1) Post a link to your Web site or blog and watch the traffic increase. 2) Pay attention to what people are complaining about or talking about and start a blog, Squidoo lens or HubPage on the topic to test the market potential. 3) Answer people’s questions and become the expert in your field on Twitter. 4) Watch for people wanting/needing what you offer, or what you could offer, and Tweet them.
I have nearly 160+ people following me, so every time I post something it keeps me and my services in front of them, so to speak. And I have found many cool tools and resources from my Twitter friends that save me time every day.

Funny you should mention that, I just launched a 3rd party Twitter search 3 days ago (http://terraminds.com/twitter/) using their public API. Their people search is more inclusive as I only have the users who posted recently on index, but I also offer search in the updates (tweets).
I’d been hoping for something more useful, like the “friend finder” features now standard among the big social networks, including Myspace, Friendster, Facebook, Last.fm, etc. Having to search piecemeal for people is a pain. I’d rather just leverage my email contacts and see who among them is signed up.
