I am just looking at setting up a Pligg site and from viewing many of the posters websites it seems it's a very function and useful way of creating a community, and attracting website visitors. Most of the sites I saw had very high Google page ranks as well.

I hope the development continues and grows in the same way thatWordpress has done.

As a website owner, the Digg or Pligg model works far better at generating customers than a blogg and requires much less work since your users create the content for you.

Don't forget that facebook once had a very small user group as well and was simply a social networking app. Clever people will always be able to monitize a great idea.

HM2K> exactly, how to sell something which everyone can copy and mofify for free. Also if you want to create your own digg clone, it is one week of php programming.

This is my result - http://www.womanseeks.com

Pligg is great. It is a bit buggy, but much easier to set up and manage than Drupal. Most of the bugs we fixed in 2 days for our site.

I hate each and every clone that hopes to get the success the original had. And it isn't even good for the progress.

What if, instead of trying to come up with new, original projects, everyone would just clone the others.

This being said, I do admit that sometimes, some clones can be useful.

Is Pligg yet another example of a "very successful" 2.0 project that can't even make enough to keep the owners fat and happy and retire them early? After reading Don Dodge's mini-analysis of how it appears most VCs are *losing* money on startups I'm wondering if online companies are sort of like Arabian Horse breeding where money is usually lost but people are so enthusiastic and wrapped up in it all that we all keep chugging along, hoping for the big payoff.
