New Generation Adult Sites Roundup
by Michael Arrington on August 11, 2007

Online porn is usually a cutting edge industry and it is always all about the money. The industry is often first to the Internet with new features that eventually trickle down to mainstream consumer sites.

The latest wave of web innovation, though, was centered squarely on consumer sites. And the porn guys have adapted many of those features to create massively successful second generation adult content sites. PornoTube was the first we came across, in mid 2006. Others, like EroShare, have followed. We also mentioned Red Light District, a virtual world, in a recent roundup post.

Go2Web2 has just posted a roundup of some additional ones. Some of these have fantastic names - MegaRotic, Fantasti.cc, NippleByte, and StumblePorn, for example.

Many of these sites are little more than lead generation tools for more traditional porn sites (and if you are going to visit them, put on some protection first). But it is fascinating to see the industry try anything new to get new money in. Lots of competition and lots of money drive all of this.

Too bad PornCrunch or SexCrunch are taken :-)

YouPorn is a good player out there… my brother told me :p

What differentiates the porn industry webmaster and traditional webmaster is that they work together to exchange traffic until something converts… Quite different than most competing websites and blogs….

I guess someone caught Mike looking at porn at work…and he came up with “I’m doing a piece on porn” as his excuse

@Andrew Right at the bull’s eye. You had me in splits :)

Google YUVUTU its User Generated Porn ;)

xtube is the best I’ve seen. (Click the videos tab and go to top favorites to get the good stuff fast.)

this might as well be trashcrunch.com!

i’m leaving and it looks like other are already leading the way!

this is all you have to talk about mike???

you disgust me, this is the last page i view here. cover me if you want but i don’t care. i’m already crushing those who you’ve covered!

Busy with “research”, Michael?

You just got that much cooler in my book Michael.

Great post Michael, I actually read the Go2Web2 post before this one was posted, but what I like about it is it is a lesson to us marketers. Want to learn from the best, see what the porn industry is doing

can’t talk about new age porn sites without mentioning youporn.com. traffic stats speak for themselves:

http://www.alexa.com/data/deta.....otube.com/

PerfectVideo.com has some innovative content management tools that let users edit together custom ‘mix tapes’ of porn. They can isolate the parts of the scene they like and add them to a playlist to watch later. No one else in adult is doing this. I have yet to see anyone do it outside of porn either. If you want to check it out click on Playlist when you get to PerfecVideo.com.

Youporn is the big winner, check out alexa ratings - flew into top 100 just this month

I can’t believe that we didn’t get noticed in this post.

http://www.playfulbent.com

Playful bent is just about the only adult site around that makes heavy use of AJAX, web2.0 style design, user-centric content, and doesn’t just attempt to clone a non-adult web2 success story (such as all the adult youtube clones).

Playful bent is growing slowly as a successful adult social network, and includes taggable profiles, blog aggregation, private strip shows, dare games, collaborative erotic stories, forums, galleries, and coming within the next month - integration with yahoo groups.

(Disclaimer: I’m a developer of playful bent, and am clearly biased)

xtube looks like it’ll have a great future; speed, promotion, and especially content.

The adult industry may not have led the way in this field, though watch out, it’ll explode.

I’m very disappointed to see this post. Pornography causes untold harm to men and women daily. Despite the industry’s past or future technical contributions, covering specific pornographic sites should be beneath any respectable blog.

Let us not pretend that pornography is an acceptable past time for mature adults. It harms those involved, it harms it’s customers, it harm us as a society.

needless to say, i was pretty surprised to get all these emails this morning about NippleByte being mentioned on techcrunch… never thought i’d see that one on here ;)

Another one worth checking out — does some things a bit different, including in-line previews…
http://www.69votes.com/

Also worth checking out http://www.pornspectator.com. Great way to filter thru the massive quantity of adult sites that are.. well.. worthless, and get to the good stuff.

show me nice and sex movies
