Although Works is just re-wrapped MS products, it contains real value in its connecting so many MSoft productivity tools together online. The UI is awful, but if they fix that they could really tap into online users' productivity needs. Works is an old look at Google Wave. I know I sound insane but if MSoft makes the UI task-centric versus project|product-centric, they'll win and I'll look far less crazy.

Ok.. That's hilarious.. It says it needs 228MegaBytes of available space to install and says that I supposedly don't have enough. I have a 300GigaByte hard drive and only 14GigaBytes are being used! I think microsofts calculations are off by just a *bit*

Unfortunately, 'Your Daddy' posted an upgrade to Works 8 rather than the actual program. I am one of those people who prefer Works over Office (yeh, I know). I used to have Works on my computer before it crashed and I have been trying to reload it without success. Does anyone know where else I might find the free download (long story)?

Your Daddy posted a link for the Works 8 download. Unfortunately, it doesn't work unless you already have Works 8 installed on your computer. I used to have Works 8 and can't find the disk since my computer crashed (I know, that's a no brainer). Does anyone else know where to download a free version? I really like your forum...it's been very informative. And yes, I prefer Works over Office.

The simple works text writer crashed on my freshly rebooted pc. How hard is it to keep a programme going wich is only used to type text in.. Lost a thousand words and saved frequently after that. Now looking for the programme online since I have to continue the project but my works cd is jammed. Too much trouble for nothing.

I wished I read these blogs before insalling this freely received stuff. I should have been aware - something free from microsoft?

I am into open office for some weeks - since my laptop was stolen. IT freaks warn me back up frequently - is it so unreliable?

Sorry forgot one everybody: The Microsoft Works 9.0 Stand Alone Calendar above is only about 2,8 Mb, much better instead of installing whole Microsoft Works 9.0 suite for 365 Mb lol!
And it's free as full version (it was apart of OEM one) and one better thing, it's also free adds!

If you just only want Works Calendar rather then installing whole Microsoft Works Suite (free OEM version), just download this Works 9.0 stand alone calendar installer:

http://www.4shared.com/file/64127170/112eb6d/Microsoft_Works_90_Calendar_Stand_Alone_Installer.html

The stand alone calendar installer requires .net framework 2.0 or higher installed

Works 9.0 calendar can also be Windows calendar replacement for xp since GUI and functionality look nearly similar (export .ics/ical format, publish etc)

MS Works compete with Google Docs? Blasphemy! Everybody knows Google Docs is supreme!

Why, with just a few more beta releases, Google Docs will almost be as functional as Wordpad!!!

In all seriousness, it's GoogleDocs that needs to compete with Works. Being online is cool, but it's still not safe enough for businesses to trust...at least not businesses with enough money and business to matter.

Well for someone who's trying to compete they haven't made it easy to find the damn download. I've spent the past 10 minutes trawling the Microsoft site but still no luck. I had to get the link from the comments in this post. Disgusting.
