Profile Builder Launches Tonight At TechCrunch Meetup

nullAt tonight’s ninth TechCrunch meet-up, identity management service Profile Builder is launching and demoing their product on Profil.es. Profile Builder’s solution tackles the fragmentation of our online identity caused by the increasing number of services vying for our attention.

With Profile Builder, you can create one profile to link together all of your bits of online identity onto one customizable profile. Users can control visibility and access, while tracking stats on their profile’s performance and activity. A unique Profil.es icon can easily be added anywhere you can place HTML code, such as e-mails, blogs, and personal websites.

Our current review is sparse, because we will be seeing the site for the first time when it launches tonight. However, there are several other sites also trying to link together our online identities. ProfileLinker, Profilactic, and Loopster are some of the identity aggregators we’ve seen. Identity search engines like like WikiYou, Spock, and Wink are also helping solve the identity problem.

“Our current review is sparse, because we will be seeing the site for the first time when it launches tonight.”

So why write/publish this right now?

The identity problem is a big problem. Its hard to maintain oneself in multiple spheres - e.g. MySpace, Facebook, Xanga. But I think what is really needed is some API’s that allow communication between the services. For example, Facebook allows me to integrate RSS feeds into my profile which pull from my blog.

Okay, party’s over. Let us in!

Somebody better tell profil.es that they better have some profiles in the database before they launch, or provide some other way to see who’s in their DB (e.g. links to “latest profiles”).
I tried some searches but I keep getting 0 results.
Now, there’s no way I’m going to fill in my own profile there and not the competition’s websites, before I see how the end results is going to look.

I saw the profilebuilder application, and I thought it was amazing. They have some features that no one out there currently has. The ability to manage by location was really impressive. It’ll be interesting if they can pull this off, they have a bold strategy. Expect them to be gobbled up quickly.

Site seems profoundly broken. It’s saying “Welcome back!”, though I’ve never registered or even visited before. And it won’t let me register. And every search I do returns 0 results. And it’s slow.

Other than that, though, great job!

I m not impressed. Putting my profile into a silo and giving me an icon link into the silo is different from putting a link on a page to my profile on myspace ?

I think that of all things a profile should should at the very least be created with some kind of open standard that allows for exporting, importing, and sharing.

They’re open for business! Sorry William, from what I see, it looks sharp and seems to fill a need. Unless you’re happy with myspace for the rest of your life. Not sure how to use it completely, but I’ll give it a go.

    I’ll try anything once.

Profilactic has already added support for Profile Builder. So you can create a Profile Builder account and add it to your Profilactic pages. See mine in the right column here:
