by Duncan Riley on July 26, 2007

P2P and web video sharing service Veoh has announced that former Yahoo executive Steve Mitgang has been hired as CEO.

Mitgang was formerly a Senior Vice President at Yahoo and led Project Panama, Yahoo’s next generation contextual advertising platform.

Veoh closed a $26 million funding round and launched distributed television platform Veoh TV in June. According to the LA Times, Veoh’s founding CEO Dmitry Shapiro has moved to the position of chief innovation officer.

It is quite interesting when a start up and convince a senior VP of Yahoo, just off a high profile, successful major project - to leave and join them.

Perhaps, after Semel left and Yang was chosen - Mitgang felt there was no future advancement and wanted a new challange

I thought Mitgang was fired by Decker in Februaruy?

Seems like more and more of Yahoo’s execs are finding greener pastures with Web 2.0 Companies. I wonder how this will effect yahoo’s strength long term?

There other people who looks for challenge, not just money. An example is Jerry West who left LA Lakers after successfully managing it, and went to Memphis Grizzlies which was the worst team the time he was hired. He made the team reached the playoffs 3 times.

Cool. I like Veoh, though I find their content distribution a bit frustrating. They are too focused on delivering “uncensored” content and in so doing will scare off the family oriented market. “Mommy, why is Shakira next to Donald Duck?”
