If you find yourself bored this morning - incredibly, mind numbingly bored out of your mind - you may want to drop on over to Justin.tv and watch the show’s creator, Justin, hanging out with one of the other stars of the show, the Naked Cowboy in what can only be described as a cry for media attention. Like the Naked Cowboy, Justin will be wearing nothing but briefs, shoes and his hat. And they’ll be hanging out in Times Square, where the Naked Cowboy plays his guitar every day.
The stream will be live on both channels, so you’ll be able to see both men in all their glory if you switch back and forth (Naked Cowboy will be looking at Justin, and vice versa). The fun starts at 10 AM PST.
Look for an announcement soon by Justin.tv to open up to all who want their very own 24/7 video channel. UStream already does this. More competitors are here, but due to brilliant PR stunts like the one this morning, Justin.tv seems to get all the attention.

Justin.tv fell off of my personal radar as soon as I stopped watching… is there any indication of how they’re doing on the path to profitability?

Maybe if they got fruit-of-the-loom to sponsor, otherwise this lacks creativity and coordination of any kind. I suppose it is better than guys on camera typing at their computers.

Hmm. I haven’t gotten the impression that this company does brilliant PR so much as he seems to have some good connections, but I think this kind of idea has legs somewhere - I think they just need to focus on what people like to see, not what the company wants to publish. When I think about what makes top shows sexy and what attracts people, I sort of don’t see it in Justin.tv’s formula. Justin’s life was boring, the new girl’s life was boring…. but I like the idea and I hope he finds what works.
Video’s a good place to play and he has a nice early start.
Justin.tv reminds me of an updated version of public access television a la “Wayne’s World”. I understand the concept, but the content is dull.
Justin.tv got owned by UStream.tv - evidence that Y-Combinator and Paul Graham don’t have much fight in them. They just hype things up and hope that it somehow takes off. Another great success like Kiko! We’re all waiting for Justin.tv to sell on eBay.
Boring. Who wants to see Justin looking at some dude in a pair of Hanes? What we really need is HughHefner.tv. Now that is how you get some ratings.

Justin’s life is boring and Justin himself is kind of boring. A friend of mine met him and tried to chat with him & all Justin did was say “uh huh” “right” and look past him for hot chicks.

I’ve been testing Justin.TV’s platform for the past 20 days. I’ve also been testing UStream, Neokast, Veodia, Stickam, BlogTV and other platforms as well. Everyone has their own “bells and whistles”, but where Justin.TV succeeds is in video quality.
It’s the most compelling piece of Justin.TV’s puzzle. It’s TV-like, and so far, none of the other lifecasting platforms have matched the video quality.
As Ronald points out, Justin.TV is not just stunts. That’s just the part most visible to non-hackers. Actually their underlying technology is way more advanced than their competitors’. Justin.TV already had their own custom video compression technology when Ustream was just a laptop with a wireless card.

So, justintv is a video compression technology play? How many licensing deals with the *real* content providers have been lined up?
Most familiar with these competitors know it isn’t just about stunts because the stunts are far and few between. There is simply no money changing hands except b/w “VC and entrepreneur”.
I took a look - Very smooth and compressed for streaming media. I’m extremely impressed!
I must missing something here… but I have not interest what so ever to see Justin.TV, not even too try, by curiosity. Usually, I am very curious about everything, I am rather geeky, but justin.TV… sorry, I will pass on this one. There are so many other great things to do.
