Xinu: More Stats For Any Site
by Duncan Riley on July 14, 2007

xinu.pngXinu is a service that provides a comprehensive overview of page statistics and data that leaves cookie-cutter sites such as Popuri for dead.

Xinu isn’t the prettiest service you’ll use in this space, but it’s the data that counts. The usual statistics are included, such as Technorati links, Google and Yahoo details etc. however Xinu provides even more stats, from a range of social bookmarking sites (some sites I’d never heard of), a page analysis, page validations and more.

I don’t know a lot about the background of this site, or whether we’re likely to kill it by mentioning it (it doesn’t have it’s own domain for example) but if it stays up it’s well worth a look if you’re in to tracking site stats.

  • I always thought there was something like this, just never took the time to find it. I guess since you are spotlighting it here there really wasn’t anything? Seems like a very simple yet very useful tool.

  • the layout is sloppy and everywhere.

popuri is faster and easier to use.
less is more, just like google’s homepage

  • Lot of errors on this site. Code is displaying problems on a number of modules including delicious.

  • Yea, I agree with Rishi. There’s lots of error on Xinu..
And I was surprised there’s 2 different screenshot showing up for my blog.. Hmmph..
    Popuri is still better.

  • The page loads. The data I got for specific sites was obviously wrong in numerous categories.

  • I get errors as well, but this site definitely looks useful if everything was functional. Kind of weird that they don’t have their own domain. Isn’t that some kind of TechCrunch credibility requirement for a site review? :)

  • I get my page statistics from Xenu. The only problem is, now I’m full of body thetans and my engrams are killing me.

  • They seem to have trouble pronouncing their “r”s and “n”s. The title of my blog is listed as “Michael Geay to Eath (ad vice vesa)”, geary.com is “Geay Cetal” (Geary Central), and TechCrunch is “Techcuch”.

Do you have an eyes-rolling smiley?

  • yep, the site need some some serious improvements.

Oh, and shouldn’t their domain name be xinu.com not viciao2k3.net?!?!?

  • lol..yeah, i feel funny when they don’t even have their own domain name.
The amount of errors they have is going to make this Xinu suffer a sudden death. Heck, there’s so many other better options out there.
They need to fix it. Fast.

  • I think this website has potential.

From what I could see in this beta version, the preview wasn’t functioning correctly, but everything else seemed to be okay.

    Have fun,
    rodot

  • Strange
it worked fine for me. We might have killed it in part already :-)

  • Between this place and mister-wong.de (look at the Alexa archive if you’re curious, but their favicon stil has it), where are we? It’s 2007 and we’ve got Mickey Rooney Breakfast at Tiffany’s ‘Orientals’ for logos? There’s apparently something that makes them fair game, but I don’t get it.

  • lol.. Duncan, I would say, we killed 3 quarter of it already.

  • Ah, I see. Mister-wong is German, Viciao here is in Spain, it’s all good to have 30 year old stereotypes as your logo over there.

The service is pretty nice, though, although Clusty and Orange backlinks incorrectly count the words in your domain instead of real links, but that’s them not Xinu.

I suspect the issue with the ‘n’ letter has something to do with character encoding and html encoding, what with the tilde over some ‘n’ in Spanish, I always have trouble the other way around.

  • Interesting, but I’m still going to stick with Website Grader (http://www.Websitegrader.com). It is more useful.

Could never get Xinu to even load.

  • Niiiiiice logo. A Conehead rice farmer?

  • It works for me too. But it’s a bit inaccurate.

  • It’s a nice idea, but the results are inaccurate for the sites I checked with it.

  • hi everybody,

i’m miquel the “experimental” programmer of xinu,

first of all, i would to give thanks to people for the critics (good and bad) and say sorry to Duncan Riley, maybe it’s too early for xinu announcement

yes xinu, got a lot of errors, i’m very sorry and i will try to correct all of them

now i got some problems with service

    - the api of technorati admit 500 querys for day
    - also google and yahoo (site explorer,del.icio.us had a limit and now shows 0 results
    - if the service is slow maybe is for the server, in a few days i transfer to servage (¿do you know any better and cheap?)

@Borat: a half part of logo it’s made with MS paint jeje, xinu is a catalan word (spain->catalonia) and the translation is “a chinese person”

@Michael Geary: thanks for report the error of “n” and “r”, the problem is in the ereg_replace, now it’s solved

the service can be better but i’m only one person and its really difficult

i would to search people for help me in the project (but I can’t promise wealth :D )

in a few days i share with all people the source code

    ¡¡thanks again!!

    dewwwwwwww

  • Well, It is a beta release and ther are probably getting reports about errors and stuff so (I hope) they are fixing them in their new releases.

  • The basics worked well, however Xinu lost it for me when it couldn’t locate my blogs as their hosted on a subdomain ( http://blogs.mydomain.com ), as well as podcasts, videos and webinars. As a result, the link count and page was far lower that other tools I currently rely on.

I felt that some type of benchmarking could be useful too. For example, if I have a PR5, my Alexa rating is under 10,000 and I have 25,000 pages in Google, I would have an overall Xinu Score of 5.75/10. Displaying a variety of statistics all on one screen has value, yet boiling that info down to a single number that I can measure will bring understanding of how I’m doing compared to my industry.

  • @David,
the diagnostic is based in the number of words or letters
    - site url, max 15 letters
    - title, max 10 words
    - description & keywords, max 30 words

if you think that’s too much i change it

about html tags like h2, h3, any body can said me, the minimum of tags that to use for a better position in finders?

    thx a lot !

  • I think this website has potential.
pay attention to the word in logo “中文“
it is the key they will success.

  • I am waiting for the bug fixed version.

  • I think once its developed with a better layout and more accurate data it could be a very useful tool.

  • Site is down… “abusive use of resources”… I like the idea of adding of having a one-stop-shop for stats, but I agree that popurious is still more elegant – maybe it’ll serve as a wake-up call…

  • I lke the idea of all information on one page but obviously this will cause page loads to be slower.
A vertical layout might be better though because I can see problems with smaller screen trying to fit al those frames into the width of the screen

  • it’s not going to hurt anyone if it doesn’t have enough bandwidth to stay up and running!

    Darin

  • I tried to access is and I get:

Su sitio se encuentra suspendido por abusiva utilización de recursos.
Comuníquese a la brevedad con nuestro Departamento Técnico
ingresando a través de su Mesa de Soporte

Which in Spanish means that the site was suspended due to resource abuse.

  • sorry the server goes down :(

@Tomas @Darin Carter : my idea is transfer it to servage.net of if anybody knows a better, faster and cheap server?
elegant? it’s difficult to be elegant with half logo made it with paint jeje

@iphoneinfo : the xinu interface space is like netvibes, you can move the objects and only show the information that you want

@Fabian : thx for explain the situation :)

  • Su sitio se encuentra suspendido por abusiva utilización de recursos.
Comuníquese a la brevedad con nuestro Departamento Técnico
ingresando a través de su Mesa de Soporte

  • Servage.net is not going to work well with your site, because of the way they allocate resources on their cluster. If you have more than 30 to 40 users on at once, and are using MYSQL, your site will go out (timeout). If you must go shared, go with Lunarpages shared hosting. which has Dual Conroe servers, with 4GB RAM.

  • The service is down since article on techcrunch…

  • Tried to check out Xinu, but alas it seems to have been knocked off the air after the TechCrunch article. So I checked out Website Grader (http://www.Websitegrader.com) after seeing it mentioned here – definitely have some work to do!

  • Looks like a great service! But I think you guys may have killed it with all your traffic. Haha.

  • It’d be a lot better if it could display unique visitors, but that would require code to be added, so I can see why they skipped that.

  • TechCrunch killed it!

  • Hi gafeman,

If you are looking for a server to host Xinu you should contact me. I can arrange for a dedicated dual processor server with 4GB of ram to host the site for you. We would not charge you for this.

    My email address is ron@soccergaming.com

  • I will have a look at this site when it comes back online.

  • The services is totally innacurate, displays a screenshot of six months ago of my blog, gave me a 0 indexes pages from google and yahoo! heheh, says no rss in the site and a lot of more errors.

  • You killed it.

Is there any place which can guide ‘experimental’ developers. I believe miquel is supporting this site as fun project from his own money.

It would be great to be featured on techcrunch, but not to see your site crumbing down next. After a point few dollars here and there start hurting. So any place where experimental developers get help on how to keep there site running with minimal budgets??

  • gafeman contact me at manav.gupta@gmail.com. i can resolve your server issues.

  • yeah broken site / broken content / please don’t cover weak sites again

  • hi everybody,

today i tried to tranferred the service to servage.net, but also the support has suspend my account for the high consumption

this is the info from today, that give me the servage support:
    655.609 / MAX 400.000 requests
    29.02 GB / MAX 120 GB bandwidth

some people from comments, offer me a dedicated server but with ads

but i can’t accept because the problem will not solved

in google, yahoo, technorati api, has a query limit for IP, when the number of querys is over of the allowed
they return a error page and the service shows 0

thx for the support but i don’t know how i can continue the service, i’m not a company only a person and some prices are really expensive for me

maybe the solution is to have more than one server and alternate the servers for check the results.. but i really don’t know how to do

    what the people recommend?

  • What about the Google API… aint there a way that users enter their OWN Google API key… that would at least solve the query limit…

29.02 GB for a single day?????????

  • Sounds interesting , I am using GoStats.com and dont want to part with it as they are good and satisfactory. Can I use not the Xenu and GoStats at the same time.

  • hi everybody,
i can continue the project it’s to huge for me, maybe other people with much money can continue

I publish all the code, i can say that is not programmed very well, but I really enjoyed doing it

    thanks a lot
