digg.pngKevin Rose has announced the release of an official version of Digg for the iPhone.

The iPhone specific version supports:
* Native iPhone-like story scrolling
* Mini permalink pages with top 5 comments
* Login and Digging
* Pagination
* Jump to any topic

Top Story listings are planned for a future update.

Rose notes that users can still browse the normal Digg website on their iPhone, but the web application is lighter and faster way to visit Digg and takes advantage of some of the iPhone’s user interface features.

I have no way of testing it, but certainly mobile specific clients do tend to work better than accessing the original page directly.

Digg for iPhone can be accessed at digg.com/iphone.

I like the interface of digg on iphone more than digg on browser.

Love the interface and speedy too. Regular Digg was dog slow on my iPhone.

very cool but unfortunately i have no iphone to try it out.

You can check out any content as it would appear on an iPhone by using iPhoney (requires OS X):

http://www.marketcircle.com/iphoney/

cool, now i can post comments about how i hate women and blacks while waiting for the bus

That is nice iPhone is commanding respect, did you see the WoW on iPhone?

Vijay

Cool.
The topics and login pop-ups need a cancel button, especially the login pop-up.

Maybe we need a standard like m.comanyname.com for all the iphone apps like i.companyname.com. so digg would be i.digg.com.

Its good that it didn’t take long to come up with this version. Cool.

Wow! It’s so perrty and simple. I love to have one but It have not been launch in my country yet.

it’s like that commercial:

“this isn’t some kevin rose, slow as balls version of the internet.

this isn’t some watered-down news commenting internet thing where the commenting system never works right.

this is the made specifically for an iphone internet”

if you still have to make an iPhone version of your site, then I feel lied to. would television do that to me??

iphone posts are very annoying, now before people jump on me for saying that hear me out. iPhone is just that a phone, only a small percentage of Americans have it and none of us living outside of the us have one. Now couple iPhone hype with some kevin rose hype and you get this.

I await the Pownce launches iPhone Version post.

Mike and Duncan can we please go a week without a digg related post :P

Serious question: Do these website for iPhones call for anything other than normal stripped down mobile sites? Or is this just an example of Apple taking control of a technology and making it ubiquitous the way the did with the iPod. Will we be seeing iphone.whateversite.com the way we often see mobile.whateversite.com, and should they be different?

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
