TUN3R: Internet Radio Search With A Dose Of Web 2.0
by Duncan Riley on July 9, 2007

yun3r.jpgTUN3R.com is an internet radio search engine targeted at “the Web 2.0 generation.”

TUN3R departs from traditional radio portals by greeting users with “The Dial”: a grid containing top-rated internet radio stations. By simply dragging the needle around The Dial, listeners can hear audio samples streamed from stations, as well as browse through an abridged version of the broadcaster’s recent playlist.

Users can search stations’ playlists for artists and songs they are interested in hearing, with results appearing on “The Dial.”

The index includes 1,400 stations covering over 40 languages and 25 different musical genres. TUN3R earns revenue by providing value added services to stations shown on its Dial including custom color Dial graphics for improved visibility, more frequent playlist sampling and real-time audio sampling.

Interface wise it feels a little like a $1 pixel advertising page mated with an AM radio, and yet there is definitely something cool with the layout and idea. The database is extensive and the ability to view playlists as well as sample audio refines the internet radio search experience. Definitely a site that’s worth visiting if you’re searching for an online radio station.

Million Dollar Home Page meets Radio how odd.

Keep an eye on our radio coming as soon as I develop it.

None of the stations even work. I keep getting Connection Failed no matter which station is picked.

I liked this site best as a screen capture! Nothing works.. the display is cluttered and the interface is a train wreck. Take two Tufte’s and call me in the morning!

same here…I keep getting “Connection Failed” message no matter what radio station I choose…

Hey guys,

Thanks for the positive feedback ;)

Yes, the server got swamped, and the samples aren’t playing for most users today.
However, you can still search for stations and click the “TUN3 IN” button to get high quality audio. All stations are 100% independent of TUN3R.

We’ll be sure to pop a couple of “Tufte’s”, and chase it with a “Donald Norman”.

I’m having a hard time connecting myself. Hopefully it’s nothing permanent.

honestly / dont try to get outside the box so much - that it hurts people’s eyes.

- cause no matter how good the idea / people like their eyes not to hurt

So…once i find the stations I like…whats to keep me coming back to this site? Besides, wouldn’t you really like to build your own station using Slacker, Pandora, Last, Launchcast, et.al?

Strange on the neg comments
It worked fine for me, and being far, far away from the US internet wise I would have thought if it was not going to work, it wouldn’t work for me. Apologies to those who couldn’t get it to work.

I too must apologize. We got hit by the classic problem of being overloaded.

I agree too that the user interface could deal with a layer of polish, but even if you’ve been frustrated I only hope that we’ve opened some people’s eyes to a different direction that’s not just Facebook.

Most importantly, if you play with the search feature it actually does work, and in all earnest if you give it a chance (by searching against playlists), you will find stations that are playing the real cutting edge stuff that [bluntly put] you can’t find in stores. Admitedly, this is more in the dance, techno, pop, alternative genres.

It’s real radio, we don’t control it, and it’s different.

This site makes it official.

‘R is out
3R is in

Flickr is already feeling old.

So many languages and no place for Hindi !! There are tons of radio stations in this popular language!

What are you people talking about? The site works perfectly fine and is amazing!

With a search engine, finding internet radio that works is rare….with TUN3R all the stations work!

Great job and I LOVE the interface…the GUI is perfect for people that like simplicity not like the other Mickey Mouse stuff we see in Web 2.0 nowadays.

I’m afraid though…very afraid - you better buy TONS of bandwidth.

Thanks for the coverage !!
