A follow up to our post a week ago: A source close to the deal has confirmed to us that Google has closed the acquisition of GrandCentral and will be announcing it this week, probably today or tomorrow. Acquisitions are generally announced after the close of market, so look for this after 1 pm PST on the Google blog or in a press release (or both). If not today, possibly tomorrow. We have been unable to get the company or Google to comment on this, but our source is solid.
We still don’t have confirmation of a price, but we’ve heard it’s in the Jotspot range - $50 million or more.
When the deal is announced we’ll hopefully hear details on planned integration with Gtalk, Gmail, etc.

Awesome - it’s about time. However, I dont really have multiple phones and I like to keep work separate from personal. Cool none the less.
Yeah, not something I have much use for either, but good for them. I love to see services like this make it big.
I hate Google
I love Google
Cool. I hope to have a Google/GrandCentral account that front-ends my Jabber/SIP/whatever-VoIP-IM account/service with a PSTN number, and if they can make that a call-out as well as call-in, then all the better. (It’s only a dream… it’s only a dream…)
I guess last chance to get a grandcentral account
Just yesterday, Grand Central REMOVED the ability to upload any MP3 file to use as a ringshare (what people hear instead of a standard ring while waiting for you to answer.)
Now you’ve got to choose from a lame library of “licensed” sounds.
I guess Google doesn’t wanna get sued by the RIAA.
I like to keep work separate from personal, too. And I think they will not get many users in Europe. But maybe Google is buying only their expertise anyway?
But I will watch for updates. I created a short Internet macro that searches the Google Blog for GrandCentral news
GC also added a two-way voice prompt when you try and record a call. In the pat only you knew that you were recording the call.
They are certainly getting their ducks in a row for a Google acquisition. I personally embrace it.
Impressed by TC’s accurate sources. Google made the announcement on their blog at 1:01 PM west coast time.
Already announced on GC too… http://grandcentral.com/about/google

Now… if TC could post the price of the acquisition as well?
Why doesn’t Google own all web 2.0 companies?
Then they can own all ad agencies, and soon move to autos, airlines, and pharma.
Soon they can partner with China to help poison world consumers in an effort to get their stock price to $600.
Why don’t they teach that in business school?
Sounds like a great acquisition for Goog -
- Google - will implement very well - RB
Ironically, Sunday night I registered with GrandCentral, diligently created a snippet of one of my band’s song intros for a ringtone and uploaded. Worked like a champ! Couldn’t wait for my bandmates to hear it. *next morning* “Where the HELL is my “RingShare”?!” They could have posted something indicating they yanked it. I thought I’d hallucinated the whole thing. That’s Web 2.0 for ya.
Incidentally, I got absolutely NO feedback from GC Support for the RingShare ‘issue’ nor another question I had asked of them earlier on an unrelated item.
Can somebody send me a referral link to grandcentral. My email is jodavisllc@gmail.com
Thanks
