Social news site Thoof, privately launched nearly two weeks ago by invitation only, is now open to anyone. Our launch post is here.
Thoof is about personalized news and incorporates elements of Wikis, Digg/del.icio.us voting features. Users submit stories to the service as a link to the news item, along with a title, description and tags. Other users start to see the news item if Thoof determines they will like it. However, submissions can be easily be edited by other users who think there is something lacking.

I think I am learning to hate the word “social” since I started reading TechCrunch.
As anyone from a French-speaking country (French Canada, France, Belgium, etc.) will tell you, they have just named their startup… “pubic hair”.
funny if true
Absolutely brilliant.
Just wait until they start using the words “social” and “iPhone” together, Joe B.
Someone should mention the internal error upon using the search feature. So I did
otherwise, I guess its kind of a wiki thing. I don’t know why, but I find it a little bit annoying the way I can never scroll to the end of the page. Though that may suggest something about my current mental state.
re: pubic hair, definitely funny if true, unfortunately its not.
Checked with a French co-worker, Thoof doesn’t mean “public hair” in French - funny though, just obscure enough to be plausible.
The problem with thoof is the digg model. It’s getting spammed right now.
How very true, seems like we are gonna be governed by social sites! Yuk
The French word Louis-Eric is referring in fact to is pronounced “TOOF” - not thoof - & it does not necessarily mean what he said to every French speaking person. I had to sit back & think one minute before, AHA!, right, well, what, not a big deal…
Thoof -
- How does it beat Topix? who is already a major player with a better look UI ?
tech povera, Thoof is not getting spammed, I think if the author of that blog entry were to check their preferences, they would see that they have switched off their adult filter - which is why they are seeing adult themed stories.
What ? I’m French, and work in two French countries. Ask better people. Thoof = Touffe = Bush.
Thoof, now in Pubic beta?
Whack
I like this idea (surfing over to sign up now).
