lijit.jpgSocial media search company Lijit has secured $3.3 million in Series B funding.

The round was led by Boulder Ventures and joined by existing investors Colorado Fund I (High Country Venture) and Brad Feld. The round brings total funding for Lijit to $4.2million.

Lijit’s search service allows readers to search blog publishers’ posts, bookmarks, blogroll, and more from a widget placed on the publisher’s property; essentially a one point box to search any published material from a company or individual no matter where it is, be it on blogs, Flickr or other social networking sites.

Lijit’s search statistics can be utilized by publishers to better understand what users search for on a particular site when they visit.

Peter Roshko, General Partner at Boulder Ventures will join Lijit’s Board of Directors as part of the deal.

I like it– pretty simple idea, not necessarily revolutionary but I think it could work for a lot of people.

We had an Interview on http://www.interview-blog.de with Stan James of Lijit in Feb.

Does anyone have any idea of the visits and page views of lijit??

3 million for a widget - this is a bubble.

Lijit rocks. If you haven’t already you should really check it out.

@Concrete Staln: It’s way more than just a widget

Why would you invest $3.3 million in something that anyone can create with google custom search which is what they use

Ryan,

This can be a common misconception unless you actually try LIjit. We search not only your blog content, but also your bookmarks, photos, videos, and your blogroll. The average publisher in the Lijit universe has an amazing 66 others in their network in addition to their own content which often includes up to 10 other online services.

For instance checkout my search networks at http://www.lijit.com/users/toddvernon/profile and then check out the statistics on my blog at http://www.lijit.com/users/toddvernon/stats

The cool part is we auto-discover all this content and then keep it up to date daily as your blogroll, network and content changes. Each week we proactively send your subscriber statistics and give you valuable information about what your readers are looking for and where they are finding it!

Dig a little deeper Ryan and give Lijit a try and I think you will see the value proposition immediately.

I like this idea - aggregating identity across sites.
