100 More Tickets Now Available to TechCrunch Party
by Michael Arrington on June 25, 2007

To celebrate some of the recent TechCrunch press, we’ve just made 100 more tickets to the July 27 TechCrunch Party at August Capital available. The price is $10, all proceeds are being donated to the Kipp Bayview Academy, a public elementary school in southeast San Francisco, for the purchase of computer-related equipment. Attendee identification will be checked at the door.

We’ll make another 100 tickets available in the week before the party. We will also be reserving some spots for TechCrunch20 attendees. If you are attending TechCrunch20 Conference, you will be able to attend the August Capital party.

Now if the cost to flying to California was only so cheap … :)

Hating on TechCrunch for having this event only on the left coast.

Already sold out.

8 mins!! hahaha what are you, the Stones?

just $10 - i’m sure you’d get the same response/buy rate even though you charged $30, maybe even 50+ who knows

So much for eating lunch… sigh. Came back 12 minutes from the posting and wanted to buy the tickets for my team over here in Davis… any more tickets soon?

- Steve

lawrence - the charge is just to reduce no-shows, a problem we’ve had with earlier parties. I want this to be free or close to free for attendees.

Will there be an open bar…..or not?

yes, there will be wine and beer. Nice question.

I guess I missed the Wired article on you, Mike. Should I hunt you down too?

*pause* Just Kidding.

Could you please, please make sure that there are no lame ask.com ads anywhere to be seen? I really, really hope they aren’t a sponsor…

Wish I was still out west :(

Come to the party at Searchnomics on June 27, 2007. http://www.webguild.org

Use this code “crunch” from this link http://www.webguild.org

So TC20 cost $2k, so you could throw a free party? now … (sry that was cheap)

- I like a free party / Good Job Mike

do i feel another bubble???

Hi Mike,

If you really want this to raise money for the school, you should up it to $100 and invite 100 more.

Many of us would like to attend.

Thanks,
Robert

Too bad I am out of luck this time around.

Too late, 8 minutes is just incredible!

Free party and networking is a really good initiative!

Go on mike!

Wow, only 8 minutes? I cannot believe I missed it yet again!

Will there be Hot Babes there??

;PPP

I agree with ConcreteStain, I paid $2k for a TC20 ticket and can’t get a $10 party ticket, because I have a job and can’t look at TC every friggin minute of the day.

Toooo Bad.

They were sold out last year. This year.

Someone should probably give tips on How to get tickets for TC.

Too bad, not a single day goes for me with out visiting TC and not a single time i am able to attend it being in the west coast..

Will keep trying …..

Make the next ones 100$ and give 10x as much money to the school.

Maybe for the next tickets - if any left - you should give advance notice: “Tomorrow at xx am we’ll open the booth for 100 more tickets”.

I don’t know how that would play (I can only guess :-), but at least people won’t feel bad they missed it again because they just cannot check TC every 5 minutes (something completely understandable BTW)

lol - who are the people attending these events anyways?

i think the 80/20 rule plays into effect here.

80% of the people are “nobodies”, while 20% of the people are actual ‘people’ in the valley, who’s worth getting to know.

everybody’s pitching their ideas looking for funding/connections - lol, that’s why people value getting a ticket so much

Michael,

I understand your desire to make it free, but: (a) people are willing to pay; (b) the money goes to a good cause anyway. So why not put up a few tickets a day on eBay and see what they go for. My guess is that VCs will be the ones with the money for the winning bids and they draw the entrepreneurs who make it interesting.

It looks like I’m SOL, but I’m not raising money and just want to meet interesting entrepreneurs like myself, so I’ll defer to the money raisers :) have a great party.

Hmmm, a party with 500 people. I wonder how parties scale? At what point does it move from “party” to “festival”? At a party you might know people, but at 500 people you’re lucky to find anyone. Have you ever been to a wedding with 500 people?

What happens at 1000?

Can you add structure to the experience that makes it more interesting than random schmoozing? Spend 10 minutes with a 5 person group answering a question; best answer of the night takes home a case of [insert sponsor's beverage here]. Have-money/Want-money colored lapel stickers. A minute of silence every half hour?
