I support any new ad-supported music model. The imeem/Snocap partnership is not, however, very interesting. Streaming of indie bands supported by video ads on a computer mp3 player is not new or innovative. Unfortunately, this effort is not likely to attract much (if any) advertisers.

Also, the previously uploaded songs will all be limited to 30-second clips until the artist who created the music contacts Imeem and approves full song streaming. IMHO, that’s about as legit as they can go.

Lala streams content from larger labels. Imeem’s artists tend to be on smaller labels.

I’d say they’re about 5% legit. Anything that was uploaded before these changes is still up there, whether the artist is part of Snocap or not. They’re still a (valid) target for copyright infringement unless they take everything else down.

LALA is paying the full price — why aren’t these guys? Maybe the lawsuits will rectify that.

This could be good news for artists (however I doubt they will ever receive any substantial royalties) rather I suspect it will just push traffic to others like myplaylist.biz
