Apple To Integrate iTunes Into Bebo

Apple has announced a deal that will see the its popular iTunes service embedded into Bebo.

According to FT.com, Bebo’s 8.8m users in the UK and Ireland will be able to buy music directly from the profile of any musician who has a Bebo profile and whose music is available on iTunes.

The deal is a first for Apple. Bebo is a market leader in social networking in the United Kingdom despite not taking off to the same extent elsewhere.

It may not seem like major news, but to put it in perspective it’s on half hour leading story rotation on BBC World as I write this. It may also be indicative of a new direction for Apple; the wildly popular Facebook F8 is delivering benefits to many music related sites. To date Apple has remained silent in regards to its position on embracing the growing trend of social networking site integration.

Maybe so, but if you consider some of the top apps under F8 have gained 6 million users Apple would be mad not to be involved.

This is HUGE. I wonder how Bebo managed to get picked as the first partner for Apple. I wonder how the rev-share breaks down, but it smells like guaranteed revenue and monetizing strategy for virtually all socialnetwork players. They will absolutely line up and beg to get into this program.

that comment is offensive. and it should be removed immediately.

Please DELETE THE POST WITH THE RACIST JOKES

    - we have no room (not even on the web) for racist

    - the is huge to be Apples’ first partnet - I bet you have to give alot.

    - Im thinking normal commission (3%) ((guess)) …

    - Bebo probably getting 1% of each song sold if that.

I think it’s a logical move for Apple; I don’t know much about the social networking craze, but there’s got to be a lot of money there. This also looks to be a great thing for the artists who might not have the most exposure out there, but we’ll just have to see how it all shakes out in the end I guess.

It is not racist. It is a fact.

Most of America’s problems are caused by spics, niggers, jews, chinkis.

Are those things true that the bebo founder said? Please point me to some credible links.

Bebo is trying to desperately catch up with Facebook..

What is this post about again? :-)

Apple picked Bebo because it was locked out of all the other major sites.

MySpace has Snocap. Facebook wanted to be hands off with it’s Platform and none of the third parties widget, iLike/Last, have the direct access to the site code like Facebook does. I’m amazed that Piczo didn’t get a crack at it, but regardless Bebo was just the Cinderella left from the ball.

  12. @Alaska_Miller

snocap sucks anyway - they haven’t had any traction with folks outside of Myspace. They charge like crazy http://www.snocap.com/about/faq/ and they really don’t offer a lot of major distribution channels.

iTunes on the other hand is a totally different ball game altogether. I would seriously suggest the artists move to Bebo or at least have a store there. The distribution and the publicity that they can get is way better than what snocap will ever be able to provide them.

Think about it, is the snocap marketing genius as big as the ideas that have come from Apple?

    I rest my case!

Well what can i say after reading all this

    @13,

Der… you must be retarded. Apple isn’t promoting anyone on Bebo for iTunes. It’s just providing some logistics to enable people to buy music.

The Bebo integration isn’t even a massive effort, it’s just a testbed. Whenever Myspae’s deal with Snocap runs out, Apple’s just going to go right up and cozy with them and publicize the ABILITY to buy music and not the artists in a bigger way.

does anyone else think that figure is very dubious. i do not know anyone on bebo.

there are only around 10mn school age children in the Uk/ire.
    duplicates a go go.

It appears that iTunes is one step closer to building an affiliate program to generate additional sales.

  21. sc

Any information on how revenue will be shared? Will bebo get a portion of the revenues generated?
