The real solution would be for the media companies to simply offer a better alternative. Let them make their media available in a better format and with better categorization. I know I would abandon YouTube in a second if I could see all my favorite videos and clips in a better resolution and without having to use YouTube atrocious search function.

I think the trick was / They start with every video being uploaded from some future date;

- so any video already uploaded; might be able to stay

- also what is the incentive to make this program no flawless?

Fingerprinting cannot solve the huge problem Youtube & others have to deal with : just imagine how easily somebody can record the movie played on its 42″ plasma screen, then upload the digital file from the camcorder to Youtube…

Cant see how this could work at all. The quality of some copyrighted material on YouTube is so dismal that even humans can barely recognize what’s playing Overall, seems to be a daunting task.
