It looks like Google has a major problem with their Google Reader product today. Reports are flying on blogs, twitter and elsewhere that feeds have been deleted from people’s accounts.
We have an email in to Google PR for comment – Google representatives are responding on this Google Groups thread discussing the problem. Some users are now reporting that their feed subscriptions are coming back, so perhaps Google reverted to a backup or they have restored the cluster. Something similar happened with Gmail last year, although the problem only affected a small number of users.
We’re trying to figure out if any users were not affected. Let us know if your feeds seem intact.

Hey,
Fortunately, my feeds were intact today. Nothing strange happened besides some feeds that I marked as read in the morning appeared as new later in the evening.
My only question is:
Since the cat is gone at Twitter, did it get into Google Reader?
ok, another question:
What will Scoble do if he loses 622 feeds?!?!?!
I guess I was one of the lucky ones. I have been in Reader just about all day (following the WWDB Keynote) and have had no issues.
Cheers
I have about ~120 feeds so one or two could have gone missing but I don’t see anything not there. All the site I really care about seem to still be there if nothing else.
Mine disappeared today, I went back about an hour later and they were there. It was alarming.
No problems here.
Exactly what Bryan said..I’m kind of afraid to refresh it actually.
My 141 feeds are ok.
Everyone: You are backing regularly up your feeds as an opml file in case something happens, right?
Mine were ok.
All 267 feeds intact+present here.
I was one of the folks twittering about my Google Reader subscriptions disappearing. After 20 or 30 minutes they reappeared safe and sound. A minor glitch that reminded me the importance of exporting my feed list!
Everything’s OK here. No feeds missing, just the Official Google Blog became unread in the last three hours.
all fine here.
I noticed some feeds had disappeared earlier today. I had just started re-subscribing, then they all re-appeared.
I’ve never had any disappear, but either last week or the week before some feeds were reappearing. Today, the only problem I have had is items not getting marked as read when I mark them.
Think I’ll back them up now…
mine were fine too
No problems for me, although I’m in Australia and accessed my feeds at the equivalent of 3:30 pm PST.
all 95 intact and updating; in usa, in case that helps.
from 2-2:50 my feeds were wiped out. Then poof they were back. Really strange
Have been accessing my feeds for the last 15 hours and didn’t notice anything…
But they were some glitches last week with some read items reappearing or some of the feeds not updating properly.
They also released a new version of the Offline reader today. Maybe the two are related!
Hm, all feeds intact here.
Mine were fine. No issues at all.
All of my feeds stayed intact — I’ve been checking it all day with no interruption in service.
Same as most of you, no disappeared feeds, but looks like there are less new items than usual. I thought it was because everybody was reading the Apple news or trying Safari instead of writing.
My feeds were not affected.
When this happens I often wonder if it certain users affected by their name. i.e. perhaps everone who has their name starting with the letters M – R were affected, but not anyone A-L or S-Z. Silly, but a recurring thought.

According to several posts over at Google Groups, this has already been resolved. Of course, not everyone affected is posting there, but those who were posting seem to be replying with a resounding “it’s fixed!” response.
My feeds have been fine. Read and refreshed as normal.
My data was gone for about 30 minutes……my account was still there and my tags. However none of my 400+ subscribed feeds were available.
While I was looking for a good place to bitch about it, boom it came back.
I was in all day and all my 200+ feeds seemed to be there.
Mine were gone from about 2:00 – 2:45…back now
Totally fine. I only check it at 10, 2 and 4 PST though.
truly amazing how fast this incident spread via twitter. Good thing Chris W. was on twitter and quickly responded to this…
All disappeared around 2:00 pm but trickled back and all were back by 3:00.
It was down for a while, with all my feed missing, but now it’s all back up there again.
Well, I read this story in my in-tact Google Reader list, so what does that tell ya?
No problems here.
I don’t seem to have lost any feeds, tags, or any other info. I might have missed whenever they went out, though, as some people have reported their feeds only being out for an hour… but I think they’ve been intact the whole time.
I think my feed are intact BUT I did notice some difficulties earlier syncing my offline (google gears) with the online – but it all appears now to be working.
I wonder if the problem was gears related?

i too read this in my google reader and everything looks intact so far. crossing my fingers…
Is there a chance this has to do with some sort of tighter integration with Feedburner/adwords?
Seems like a good posibility, but you all are the experts…do tell.
My feeds seem totally fine.
I also originally read this post in Google Reader.
Bob Morris commented, “Everyone: You are backing regularly up your feeds as an opml file in case something happens, right?” – Can someone provide instructions on how to do this?
It happened for me at 4:30pm EST …. every feed disppeared except three (I have 121 feeds)
I decided to stay calm. I cleaned out my cookies, and closed Swiftfox (Firefox). Within 2 or 3 minutes it gradually all came back and within 5 minutes, panic over.
For the record, days like today, make me trust Google even more. I am guessing they were re-configuring data centers or something like that.
Mine seem to be there…
PS … I am in Toronto Canada.
no problem here too. I did notice that feeds were incredibly delayed yesterday.. I actually had to visit a real site or two – oh the inconvenience
… not sure if that’s related or not
@KellyK – to back up – go to settings, ‘import/export’. Look for export to OPML file. That file saved to your hard drive contains all your feeds and could be imported to Google Reader or any other feed reader. Hope that helps.
I’ve been in the Reader all day today (including reading this post) with no issues.
My feeds were not affected at all, like many of the people posting here
I think that nothing is wrong with my feeds too..
All is fine for me.
