Team and Concepts Limited, the Hong Kong based company behind online spreadsheet service EditGrid, has announced a $1.25million Series A investment from the WI Harper Group.
WI Harper’s previous investments include Laszlo Systems and Maxthon.
The company recently signed a deal with ThinkFree that sees EditGrid now offered as the primary spreadsheet tool within ThinkFree Office. Other deals include partnerships with Central Desktop, Salesforce.com, ShareMethods and StartForce, with EditGrid being offered within each service.
EditGrid features include the ability for users to collaborate on spreadsheets simultaneously and see changes happen in real-time. A remote data feature provides access within the spreadsheet to external data, allowing those sources to be updated in real time. Aesthetically EditGrid looks and feels like Microsoft Excel, delivering a familiar platform for those looking to make the switch to online office applications.

Very cool – most people use spreadsheets for ANYTHING (even what they are not intended to be used for) – so, the ability to continue using the same spreadsheet plus get it networked/shared, is a killer. We had a somewhat similar start-up earlier (www.sundera.com)
Other then a few gossips here and there, i havent heard about them before.
Looking slick, was fast and looked pretty simple to use. I’m not sure how much use there is for simultanous spreadsheet making, so I’m bit hesitant that would be such a practical feature (sharing is definitely a good one).
Why showing top users and a tag cloud? Doesn’t make sense.
Having used Google’s spreadsheet and checked out the feature list of EditGrid… I’m pretty impressed with EditGrid. Seems like its got a lot of interesting advanced features.
Some of the real time features are pretty neat. Looks like its worth checking out you’re going to be working on a collabrative worksheet.
Top user tag cloud / probably serves the same purpose the Top user on DIGG did …
– it will go away soon enough
– I also liked the public templates / – RB
