Babelgum Basically Just Launched

Babelgum, the Joost-like TVIP startup, effectively just launched to the public. Click on this link, which takes you to a press download page, and request an invite. The company has played second fiddle to Joost since it was announced second and it doesn’t have the benefit of being started by Skype’s famous co-founders.

The link above takes you to a press invitation page, but it was supplied by the company along with a message that they have launched publicly.

I like the website, especially the layout, a very simple and intuitive one. The channels are grouped until now in 9 categories with their own thematic.

Joost could learn a few lessons from Bablegum when it comes to the Electronic Program Guide

PC only? Someone just lost the 30 second war.

But it was founded by Silvio Scaglia, a serious entrepreneur whose last business FastWeb actually turned out pretty encouraging revenues, more than $1bn in 2006…

These guys didnt take advantage of the Joost marketing onslaught at all. If they would of just announced a private beta month ago they would of had a chance to be mentioned alongside Joost numerous times. I think launching earlier may be a boost but they missed out on a lot of free coverage and press.

Any good programming? Well, I guess I’ll find out for myself.

Something about this headline plain delights me. Perhaps they’ve invested in their product, over PR?

I like this program. It actually works with no problems like I had with the Joost software which has yet to be fixed. I wasted a really good short on BableGum and I hope to see more from this platform soon.

Notice how two of the best video concepts on the web at the moment (Joost and this) are from people with telecom and infrastructure backgrounds. People like us knew where the web was heading :)

I wonder how they plan to position the service against Joost. How will they differentiate and compete? Any thoughts or insight?

    Cheers,
