Jobvent removes scores of -45 but keeps scores at +45 with user comments that do not adequately justify the numeric score associated with that review for Anderson Merchandisers. The lack of information along with high scores does not prove Jobvent to be a non-biased source. They should rename the site "Jobvent unless attorneys contact us".

not useful, not enough people active on sites to give good enough advice. most jobs seem retail, and quite frankly once you're in the real job world, you won't care to backtrack and care about retail? maybe good for teenagers?

There's another site out there called Coderific (http://www.coderific.com) ... it's only for software jobs, but it has forums and more detailed company info. Another site that's really new, but seems to do the same thing as job vent, only much nicer is Job Jabber (http://www.jobjabber.net)

If you want to let off steam about your job from a stress point of view you should go to a site like www.workrant.com or www.bossbitching.com. This site is halfway between one of those types of site and a helpful review site. It needs to decide which direction to take.

We're doing the same thing on TrenchMice - http://www.trenchmice.com/ - only better. It's not just a simple rating system, and although our company list is fairly wide, we're still just getting started with the real information.

It's interesting information they're offering... sort of like an amazon review for employers. I don't think reasonable people will take the content on this site too seriously. It's yet another overly focused web application though. You can just as easily complain about work on your blog or a more privacy oriented site like christonium.com.

Nate, I looked over you site and the idea is equally horrible, though you used Web 2.0 looking oversized graphics.

Why do you believe that helping people aggregate anonymous negative comments and eventually building a negative community is a useful service or business?

This could be interesting, although guaranteeing anonymity means that a certain level of trust has to expected.

I can see a company taking exception to a comment, particularly one about certain proprietary information, and attempting to haul JobVent into court.

Personally, I'll leave my venting for my close circle of family members and friends.

All this Trumores and JobVent stuff was done by VentBox and covered on Mashable and the like way before. It's unoriginal and I don't see why TechCrunch would review this site over ours, quite frankly.

If they want meaningful numbers, they should have a system where the only points a commenter can assign are positive, and a bad company would have a very low average. Something like "on a value of 0 to 3, how is the management". People who go to this type of site are almost never happy employees, and the larger a company, the more employees it has who might visit. This tends to skew the results a bit to show large companies as worse than smaller companies.

Also, I notice that there is a bunch of obvious ballot stuffing going on for some companies... the highest rated company there has a very large number of posts that say the same thing in different ways and always write the company name in all-caps.

I don't see the benefit of something like this and anyone who would use it probably isn't worth hiring.

I presume we all have had jobs that weren't the best at the time, but, they did provide for us what was needed to sustain a decent living. JobVent has definitely taken it there and I'm sure will drive tons of opinions and upset employers. However, it is no doubt a good way for people to make a decision on whether they'd like to work in the prospective places.

IFz uses anonymity for a city-focused website, and people freely talk good and bad about local businesses and business leaders.

So long as you have policies to notify the site admin about removing libelous content, and remind constantly that these are peoples' opinions, there are no legal issues.

People still have the right to opinions in America.

You have to admit, the lawyers will defnitely have a field day with the site. But, hasn't this been done before? Can't you leave a note about a company at F****ed Company?

Justin is right, though, the types of companies that tend to have a higher turnover rate are mentioned more...and perhaps if you're looking to work at a company then if the company isn't named there's a good chance that no one really has a beef with that company?

Besides, would you post about a company if you had only good things to say about a company? Most likely if you were very happy there would be no need to go out and post something about the company. So, there's going to be an obvious bias there for companies that have stuff about them.

You have to admit, the lawyers will defnitely have a field day with the site. But, hasn’t this been done before? Can’t you leave a note about a company at F****ed Company?

Justin is right, though, the types of companies that tend to have a higher turnover rate are mentioned more…and perhaps if you’re looking to work at a company then if the company isn’t named there’s a good chance that no one really has a beef with that company?

Wow... really scraping the bottom aren't we? This site will eventually offer nothing of value. As with most review sites (especially job reviews) the negative noise and flame wars will drown out any useful information. The fact that it's anonymous doesn't help either since basically anyone can post anything about any company. Yea... the quality and accuracy of the reviews will be great! What the hell is the business model? Advertising?

The Microsoft and Intel reviews are entertaining.

Unfortunately, Yahoo and Google do not yet have any reviews. I suppose I'll have to stick with Valleywag for the latest dirt on GooHoo.
