WhosOff: Easy Workplace Leave Management

whosoff.pngWhosOff is an online workplace leave management service that makes organizing time off easy.

The service is directed at administrators, company owners and managers who deal directly with managing time off, from keeping a record of leave taken to balancing the demands of future leave requests.

WhosOff is not simply an administrator controlled database where information is gathered. WhosOff supports full employee access; employees can submit requests for leave or even log sick days. Appointed administrators can then accept or decline requests no matter where they are; being a web based platform decentralizes user access.

WhosOff encourages staff to be more considerate in booking and planning their holidays by encouraging them to book in advance. Last minute requests are minimized by sharing cross business or departmental leave information so all employees can see the impact of any holiday request.

Providing a leave management package as a standalone product may seem a little strange. Many large businesses would already have similar functionality built into professional human resources software and wouldn’t need something like this, however for SMEs WhosOff is a smart, free way to manage staff time off.

I’ve had to manage staff before so I saw the use in it, if you’ve never managed staff you won’t, which is fair enough :-)

This seems like an amazing application. Managing staff is incredibly difficult, especially when it comes to managing an entire office and ensuring that there are enough hands on deck during peak holiday seasons.

Very interesting from the perspective that a solution like this was considered “enterprise”. Obviously the lines between “consumer free” and enterprise are getting blurred.
Adoption will be interesting because who is going to push for this in company, large or small? HR/Finance, certainly not the employees since they like to accure their vacation.
Line managers will certainly not be the early adopters, it’s not their issue, which this seems aimed at.
Bottom-line, good luck, to you guys, it certainly is a good problem to solve from a vacation accural liability issue.

It is a good simple idea and the market is definitely big enough for this product. Only large organisations have this type of facility that can be pushed to all staff members.

I am surprised they are not charigng for it.

Shouldn’t this functionality be included in some kind of Outlook view .. and using an ICAL sync .. it would be just part of your std calendar product.

Interesting product. Just one question though. How many SMEs would be comfortable with storing this information online with a third party provider? Especially since this is free, which means that the normal service provider - consumer relationship (and the legal protection that comes with it) doesnt exist.
Any thoughts?

Nice Web service to Include in our company profile. Nice tool for Small and medium industry

This seems like one big HIPAA liability.

Plenty of the Fortune 1000 who try to track vacation at the manager-employee level even if they have a Peoplesoft like system enterprise wide.

Looks like a good product for all, but the wrong pricing strategy to attract big companies.

Much better if they take a 37 Signals/web 2.0 pricing approach, where it’s free for up to 10 users (perfect for SME’s) and then charges a $1/user/year with a few extra features included for bigger companies. And who says marketing isn’t as important as development?

Google should add this to google apps and have it sync with the individual calendars. It cannot be a big deal for them.

I was looking for a product like this a while ago but didn’t have any luck - I would prefer something in house though, possibly through exchange without using group calendars. Anyone have any ideas? Similar product that is hosted locally?

we built this same thing for our company in house. our web guy did it during his lunch break. is this really a business????

Interface is good, but there are number of fuctionality is missing. Good for small companies with 5 to 25 employees.

Thanks for all the positive comments.

We have many companies/organisations using WhosOff with over 50 users. Currently the biggest has +170 !
By using departments is becomes very easy to manage these sorts of numbers.

I’m looking for a soft like this, I’ll check.
