Eh, I couldn't watch the video the whole way through. It came across as way too cutesy for my liking.

To me it seems as though they are trying to appeal to people who are finding it hard to accept the limited identity available on the web, and hence eager to add a sense of depth and meaning to their web browsing experiences.

I'll try and focus my time interacting with friends in my physical reality ;)

I like it-- probably not going to make a big splash, but it's alright.

I agree that Yahoo seems to suffer a lack of focus, but at the same time Google is applauded for all their new projects. Obviously Yahoo needs their advertising fixed first, but I don't think these projects necessarily take away from that.

Maybe they needed something for Kevin Sites to do while he was still under contract? ;)

I doubt this site costs them too much to make, beyond what they were already paying Sites and his team for their reporting. So if the guy wants to get out of the war zones he's been stationed in for years... why not? And they actually probably save money if he does domestic assignments (life insurance alone on those war zone reporters must be through the roof).

Also, Mike Rogers (the 'Brokeback Hill' guy) is a co-worker of mine. Really nice guy.

Well Mike, I doubt it's the next youtube, but its still kind of a cool idea. A megacorp taking a personal approach to things, neato.

I doubt it will make anyone rich, but now people like my mom and dad can find out about people like you.

Does anyone else get the sense that Yahoo is all over the place? Its not just content creation, its all of their latest acquisitions...they should focus their energies on improving their core products before they go in a thousand different directions.

Yahoo is doing some interesting stuff lately. I'm not saying this is groundbreaking, but they almost seem to have become a large-scale Y Combinator with hundreds of smart people running around, no compelling major projects to put them on (the key difference with Google), and so lots of little projects are coming out of Yahoo! instead. As with Y Combinator, these projects get the benefit of a brand behind them, the benefit of an extensive network of smart people, and financial backing. Yahoo has the advertising clout to make sure almost anything that generates pageviews will pay for itself.. so.. why not?

I agree with Michael: it makes no sense for Yahoo to position themselves as content creators when they are still fighting to the top of the heap of content aggregators.

My bias is clear.. I run a site that showcases an interesting person every day at http://lookingrealgood.com/ - but where Yahoo appears to be trying to place ads, they are missing the opportunity to contribute to building a reputation economy.
