Finally - users will be able to see music videos on YouTube.
Ok, well, now at least it’s more legal. EMI Music just announced they have reached terms with Google’s YouTube both to distribute music videos from EMI artists on YouTube and to enable consumers to leverage the EMI music library in their own YouTube video creations.
Eric Nicoli, CEO of EMI Group, said the deal “meets EMI’s objectives to offer consumers the best possible entertainment experiences, to create new ways to connect our artists to fans and to enter into innovative business models that will generate revenues for our business and our creators.”
EMI will use YouTube’s content identification and reporting system to track and monetize its content and compensate artists. The tools also give EMI Music the ability to request the removal of EMI’s copyrighted content from YouTube.
Google has now secured music-license rights with the world’s four largest music labels: Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group, Sony BMG Music Entertainment and EMI Group.
In April EMI announced a deal with Apple to start selling its artist content without copyright protection on iTunes.
Of course, just about every music video you care to see is already on YouTube. There’s even a search engine that only indexes YouTube music videos, almost all of which are posted in violation of copyright laws.

good for google…
Good move from you tube to avoid any copyright issues with EMI music.
Smart move.
Yay! Christopher Walken kicks a**
Way to go YouTube, though this will only serve to encourage people to make even more awful karaoke videos. I guess progress is a double-edged sword.
This is great, perhaps this will entice some of the others in the music industry to allow their artists’ music videos to be posted. Sounds like a no-brainer to me, as they can actually see how many people have viewed specific videos, and which are more popular. They know how many times MTV played their music video but do they actually know how many real people viewed it? No.
This is the best thing the record companies can do. Embrace what’s going on as there’s no way for them to prevent it from moving, whether they like it or not.
EMI looks aggressive and trend setter…they have taken DRM free initiation..and also experimenting ad supported download model with spiralfrog(www.spiralfrog.com)
Good move from you tube to avoid any copyright issues with EMI music.
its youtube not you tube
I think this is a waste of time for YouTube, it’s totally pointless. read this article http://desinotes.com/music-vid.....e-legally/
And, this isn’t anything really new (talking about the topic - music videos on YouTube). Maybe EMI is new, but I know there are a lot of artist pages out there like Linkin Park (http://www.youtube.com/linkinparktv - Warner Brothers), Bone Thugs N Harmony (http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=BoneThugsMusic - Interscope).
This article kind of gets me because it’s not really new.
However this is pretty cool because now if you own a iTV you will be able to watch all these music videos on your tv. And since they’re coming from the record label the quality will be good and legal. Good stuff
EMI has had no other options as to cooperate. When all other “big sharks” are onboard, the one who stays outside is most likely to be ignored.
An inevitable move that only surprises me because it took so long.
This is my favorite music video on YouTube.
It’s called “Earlybird Special” and it’s about the joys of having sex with old people.

All the music videos are listed here: http://www.click42.com/music-videos/
Do that many people really care about Music Videos? Music will always be > Music Video. Video never came close to killing the radio star.
big freaking deal. when are they going to bring back the good movies and tv shows?
Good for Google, always good to go legal
I am glad the major studios have major this decision.
- Create a playlist of these music videos in YouTube
- Use Apple TV to stream from YouTube to TVs/music system
- You then have a kick ass party
Finally - users will be able to see music videos _legally_ on YouTube… It was allready possible.
We use music videos every day from youtube on our site http://www.trackfeeder.com so i’m delighted. Was always a bit of grey area. Hopefully the others will follow suit and also improve the quality of the videos on there !
this is a great news i hope other music companies will do something like this .
I wish I’d been there, that looks sweet!
