At their peak, rock legends “The Grateful Dead” attracted an estimated community of 40,000 self-proclaimed “Deadheads” trailing them as they toured the country. The movement had originally spawned from fans meeting at concerts and networking on mailing lists. Mailing lists turned digital with the launch of Dead.net, which will relaunch in the next 24 hours as a full blown social network.
The new version of Dead.net was created on the Drupal content management platform and features extensive archives cataloging Grateful Dead history, songs, photos, memorabilia, and shows, indexed and searchable by tags. Dead users will be able to participate in forums, upload their own photos, and bookmark concerts and shows they have attended. Fans will also be treated to exclusive free mp3 show downloads.

Hey now!
This is great!
Another widget, this time from 30boxes.com? Even if you actually love all these widgets, please do have them popping into me all the time.
Can we say niche again? Still, a good one with many fans; like ducks in a barrel.
So, this is the answer to having people spoof the names of other? Kinda distracting.
Let it shine!
Can’t wait for the new site. Great call, San Rafael.
?8. didn’t I just see something from 30boxes in the comments section? I reload and it’s gone! Are you guys experimenting with something?
Yep, it disappeared, thank God.
Tell those 30boxes folks : Keep Your Day Job
Nothin left to do but
sorry couldn;t resist.
“Sorry, ‘WALSTIB420′ is taken…”
Now there is a real social network that brings back some memories and has a place in my heart.
Now excuse me I’m having a flashback.
Finally! They gutted the site 6 to 8 months ago right after Rhino stepped in and there has been little to zero communication that I’ve been able discern on dead.net about the future of the website and why url’s like brentmydland.com had been turned into dead links. The music of the grateful dead has a huge impact on my life to this day, so I take their legacy and how it is treated seriously… it hasn’t seemed as thought GDP and Rhino have felt the same way… as least as shown by their actions, especially in the case of gutting dead.net. For this reason among others, I no longer purchase any GDP, GDM, or Rhino products, but hope they really put the effort into dead.net that it deserves.
I have been prepping a grateful dead archive/portal/wiki/resource at lightningwiki.com because there has been a gaping void online in terms of an end all gd resource and i’m a bit disqusted by how the remaining members / management continue to disrepect each other and the legacy to this day…. if dead.net is as good as it sounds, we’ll scrap lightning wiki and we’re good to go… if not, I look forward to creating a community based portal that will treat the gd legacy with the care that it deserves…. some of us take this stuff pretty seriously!!!
can use a facebook strategy, start with GD (Harvard), add Phish, Allman Bros, Dylan (Other Colleges), and then next the world. insert evil laugh here.
probably be a DEA agent watching the forums and exchanges. “to catch a drug-trafficer?” casey jones, you better watch your blogs.
many thanks for the valuable information

Hey now!
That’s great news, up until now I’ve been downloading lots of free audience recordings on Archive.org…the next best site for Dead tunes! I will definitely check out dead.net again.
~Tennessee Jed~
wonder what their “hit” counter will look like….be interesting to see how many unique users they get at 4:20….
hey now! lots of heads gather here: http://www.deadcentral.com/
…you just gotta poke around
glad to seem them getting back into the game …..
- I thought they were dead though , j/k
The “40,000″ deadheads number is probably way, way on the low side.
We all knew Nick and Mike were a bunch old hippies really…
This
is not news
I’ll have fond memories of the old design when it was workin’ really well for us… maybe I’ll give this new one a look at and see if it offers us anything good. Kinda sad what’s become of the organization.
@Brad: Why is this not news? Did you know about this? Or is it because it is about the Dead?
Still waiting for the site to flip so i can register “fatmanrocks”!
and then there’s always http://www.gdradio.net
So much for “launching in the next 24 hours.”
They shoulda stuck with “in just a little bit.”

this is relevant for the fans
you’ve heard of doggie years….well these are doggie hours-haha!
I’ve been a Grateful Dead fan for a long time, and I’m always impressed with the marketing choices they make. So often, they are right on target with the whole Deadhead mystique of a social community. What would be more appropriate than to make Dead.net into a social networking site?
Hello! Good Site! Thanks you! ogxnwsyocehhu
Wow, looks like a nice website. Looks like it might have been done in WordPress.
good thanks a lot. perfect!
I have release #1, #2 and #3 of Grateful Dead Bears in store condition with tags. Would like to sell! Also have the limited “Black Peter” bear.
