if you guys didn’t know the iphone is a an extremely big hit I mean where have you seen a handheld with amazing features like these i’m waiting for it come out in paris because I live there. so anyways speaking of the iphone who SAID you can get ecoli haha, the screen is most likely lcd or plazma something that will 99.9% going to resist all these oils from our body!!
so anyways I bought the pearl and i’m a little sad I don’t know if I should have waited and bought the iphone do guys think I should wait till next year?? ahhhahhhahhhahhhahhhh………. plz help me what should I do?

Does anyone know if when talking on the iPhone, the screen presses against your face or if it faces away? Because if it faces towards, I can tell you right now how much people, particularly women, are going to hate smearing their facial greases and makeup all over the “beautiful 160 ppi screen.” I’ve heard so many women complain about cell phones with big screens because their makeup gets all over it. This isn’t going to stop iPhone sales, but the realization of this usability problem will hopefully get Apple to release their iPhone 2.0 with a screen that faces away while you talk.

My current business cellphone is from Nextell. One word: crap. Steve Jobs and Jonathan Ives better qualified to develope a revolutionary cellphone product than any phone company. And they have. See a live demo of the iPhone at http://www.apple.com. If you doubt that they have redefined user friendly in cell speak, then you fell asleep during the demo.

I think people understand that the first version will be expensive and the price will rapidly drop. Apple has a very good design reputation and the consumer trusts them to create a high quality product. Plus you have to admit that most phones are pathetic in at least one or more frequently used functions.
There are several things that they could easily add, if not already there:
* if the phone has a vibrate capability, there’s your tactile feedback,
* after the exclusive period is over, other carriers will start offering iPhone,
* exchange integration, expansion with 3rd party applications - it’s a fricken computer, they can do any of this once they get the thing out. They’re just building it a piece at a time rather than all at once.

I expect this to be bigger than the iPod.

I like the idea of the iPhone but I will definitely wait til the next generation before considering. My main issues are:

* Touch screen that doesn’t work with gloves.
* Lack of 3G Network Support. (Because WiFi isn’t everywhere)
* Battery life where you have a big screen, wifi and can’t change the battery.

I think Jorge got it all wrong and Rajesh nailed it on the head. Everyone is excited for it because Apple has such an impressive track record as far as their design and software implementations. It isn’t 100%, but it’s leaps and bounds above any other soft and hardware manufacturer out there, especially the status quo cell phone manufacturers (a.k.a. all of them). “It just works.” carries a lot of weight with consumers when their products do just as they claim. That’s why their customer satisfaction ratings are always among the highest in any industry.

wow - Good comments for this article. What I assume is people believe in Apples products with their previous success. And No doubt Iphone can be a killer product. But am a hardcore user of BB. Functionalities and features available are awesome in pearl and I got it free with Cingular. In this case I / users delay buying it (and I have 2 year contract) and other side of the story - Apple fans buy it.

- Jorge, There will be several companies creating 3rd party tools. Still we are seeing several accessories for Ipod are coming up. So Software and accessories won’t be less for I Phone.

Business absolutely will not adopt this:
1) No buttons = useless if you can’t dial or input without looking at it
2) No buttons = no tactile response (it’s the little things, stupid)
3) NO INTEGRATION WITH EXCHANGE. Businesses will not switch communications systems just to use an overpriced, easily broken phone
4) NO EXPANSION OF FUNCTIONALITY except what Apple offers. Problem is, the basic programs are barely adequate for normal people. For business users, they’re so subpar they may as well be from the early 90s.
5) NO 3RD PARTY PROGRAMS. Data phones sell because you can run 3rd party apps, like GPS locators, etc. You can’t do that on an iPhone, but that’s one of the biggest business uses.

Normal consumers will lap this up.
1) Status symbol = expensive, looks good, breaks easily
2) Penis envy = but transplanted to a phone. Seriously, no one cares if you have the latest fad phone. In a month, it’ll be obsolete anyway.

This is really a dumb study with a flawed conclusion. We don’t have the real thing yet so what are they comparing the “hype” to? Unless, of course, Strategy Analytics and the people who responded to the study know something the rest of us don’t know.

Price will be the 1st issue, business issue will be the 2nd issue. I am still waiting for it to be a bust for business so I can win my bet with Mike.

Let’s look at this realistically.
1. how many people with data devices are personal?
2. how many are locked into a contract and won’t pay the $200 or whatever to get out of it
3. don’t forget my pricing example for a year of the iphone:

The bottom line is that the rich silicon valley folks will buy them all up, but the average consumer won’t be able to afford it.
