10,000 Joost Invites
by Nick Gonzalez on May 22, 2007

Joost has created our very own signup page for Joost invitations. Just go there and get one. There are 10,000 to start (proving that Joost loves us just half as much as GigaOm, but oh well), and more will come later.

This is much easier than our previous method of giving out invitations on the TechCrunch Forums. Thanks, Joost.

Nick, it’s Joost, not Joose.

Joose is a wild bird from the republic of ghana.

Is there anyway I could make a “joost-ian” deal with Tech Crunch regarding ContextWeb’s new ad exchange, ADSDAQ? We’re looking for publishers who are interested in our self-service portal right now.

John

Cool… I was just asking around for one of these.

Any bets on when we’ll see another comment letting us know that this is a downloadable application, which violates the laws of web 2.0?

Joost has really found a pretty good way to raise buzz about their product. It has been quite some time (maybe as far back as Gmail invites) I believe.

Wow, awesome product! I’m always critical of companies that create a ton of hype while keeping everything in “private beta”, but this is yet another company to prove my thoughts wrong.

Also, check out all the feedback on Joost on Tangler -
http://www.tangler.com/group/5558/topic/11075/

yeah - I got one (10k) is atleast …. not limited … heh If I were them Iwould have released 1k, then another 9k later to get a second TC post

- heh Thanks, TC for - getting this, RB

Why can’t I get any channels to play?

Thanks Mike !

Joost is brilliant. Use everybody elses bandwidth to deliver video. Simply brilliant.

The quality is pretty good, although the ads I saw looked better than the content (MTV).

Punk’d is a pretty good show on the MTV channel… can’t vouch for any of the other shows, though.

I am waiting for House MD, Southpark and Tech TV. Then I will jump on the bandwagon.

Wow! A website that searches YouTube. Simply brilliant.

OMG thanks so much for getting that sorted! Been waiting for ages!

Joost is not really WEB 2.0 - May 22nd, 2007 at 2:29 pm PDT

Something went wrong with Joost’s hype.

VC put too much money on Joost. It’s suppose to be WEB 2.0 thing… you know HTML, ASP, PHP, Flash, Video streaming…. NOT download application.
I’ve download it. I didn’t work on my old PC to laptop DSL.

Joost developers need to redo it again! Joost need to redevelop another hype again. You got all wrong…

Stop the Joost download!!! REDEVELOP HYPE AGAIN!!!

Faster than I thought… expected us to make it to at least 20.

Joost is so over hyped ? its just T.V over the internet nothing new - who wants “others” to control what they watcj ? I SURE THE HELL Don’t!

I wasted an invite. It doesn’t work with Linux. I won’t run anything that requires Windows or Crapple.

Joost founder might drink Michael Jackson’s Jesus Joost

Neat. I’ll have to give this a shot, since I know almost nothing about Joost.

The nice thing about this would be to have them establish a nice content overlay network (lots of supernodes — just a matter of time and enough people downloading it) then reverse engineer the protocol.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skype_Protocol

Joost seems to built on a similar foundation.

One can then build servers to retransmit your own content, without any ads etc.
Since each joost user acts as a server anyway (its a p2p network), it is possible to do this, and probably a worthwhile activity a few months from now, when there will be a large set of users on the system.

I hate it and uninstalled it. Despite allowing me to look at the catalog (which was filled with sophomorish crap), it wouldn’t load anything. It said I was “disconnected from the internet and to try later.” WTF? The problem is them, not me. Then I couldn’t for the life of me find how to completely exit Joost. I finally killed it with windows task manager and uninstalled it. Thanks for the invite, but they need to do a lot of work on this IMHO. I’ll pass.

Enjoy the invites, hope to see some of you in the forums!

Thanks a lot for the invites!!!

A friendly reminder to those receiving invites for Joost:

IT IS beta software. It is NOT released (yet). There WILL be hiccups. It is NOT perfect software (yet). So, save those of us who understand what “beta testing” truly means, and not whine about Joost’s current imperfections.

It will improve over time. Don’t download it if you’re not patient — of which most people that are, aren’t.

Joost doesn’t work for me. Over-hyped Internet TV. Literally - I can’t get any videos to load. Too bad. One thing regualr TV has: no worries that users won’t actually get the new TV to work…

太棒了棒太 !

#27: Ronald — Skip the condescending crap. If Joost doesn’t want real comments, then don’t release it.

Nice concept, and a decent selection of content. But, horrible interface and very sluggish. Yeesh - controls don’t come up predictably, and it’s guesswork trying to figure out how to perform basic functions or even move it around on the screen. The ad overlays are too intrusive on the content if you’re not in full screen mode.

希望给我发放一个!谢谢,期待!
