Congrats! and thank you for your kind words of interest and link to ptrades.com. We had a “stocks?” link over to you from Jun’06 until our recent site redesign launched last month, and now noticing it’s gone i’ll restore it.

How will we handle expirations? .. Correctly! But you are right that this is both a challenge and an opportunity for us. Instead of threatening delivery of a metric ton of corn to your front lawn, we’ll just float an email your way saying we did so, suggesting you pay attention to your positions. [For those of you looking at the site after a week or so: what expiration problems?]

More seriously, we currently have shortcut trades for copying another person’s trade, for closing a position, and for adding/reducing positions. We’ll add ones for “roll-over” and advanced matrix positions as we grow. While these seem like no-brainers, not even any real, commercial trading platform has them yet. Hey patent lawyers, any of you work for equity?

does it really bother you that other people are building something they and others might like? Does every site need to be subscription based?

Honestly, what does it matter if a vc decides to give a podcast directory or any other copycat site 5 mil? It isnt any skin off of your back.

People are going to continue to build things they think are valuable whether or not you think they are worthwhile, deserve funding, or are acquired.

Congrats to Stockpickr.

Whats funny is I used to make websites for a living back in the 90s but maybe when I’m building my own site I get a little color blind. I don’t know. That said, its a site unlike any other so its been hard to find a comparable site that I like that I could model the design after.

If anybody has any new features they would like to see, please let me know. Also, I’m going to check out ptrades as I’m curious how you guys handle the expirations on contracts, etc. RockYourStock looks like a lot of fun. I plan on linking to it from both Stockpickr and my daily blogwatch column at thestreet.com.

Congrats on the great news! I think people here that have negative comments are either:

a) jealous;
b) do not understand the value proposition of stockpickr (or of any finance website); or,
c) both.

The information on that site is invaluable to investors (and to Mr. Cramer) as he mentions it on his short video clips — Cramer on Demand — the look not so much so. With that said, are there workings of a better user interface in the near future? I’m a beginning trader; trading both with my own small account and my sister’s roth IRA and I think the site’s content is fantastic.

Congratulations to James. It sounds like TheStreet is keeping you on an earnout, which is good news for StockPickr. I wonder if TheStreet will announce a similar deal for Howard Lindzon at WallStrip?

All in all, TheStreet.com seems to be making smart plays in building their brand.

In other words, I’m remaining heavily involved and welcome all ideas and potential partnerships.

James Altucher contacted me for feedback early on regarding the features of StockPickr. I enjoyed exchange ideas with him and I was always impressed at how fast they addressed suggestions and issued that I found with StockPickr. I feel like now that StockPickr is part of a large corporation, the window for me to partner with them has probably closed. It goes to show you that it is never too soon to act on an idea. Opportunities can disappear quickly. James, if you still have any clout with StockPickr, shoot me an email to discuss the idea I have.

In terms of interface, I hate to click. I like to have as much info available to people as possible. Maybe it could be better but who knows? We get a lot of pageviews per user so so far so good.

The site is ugly and confusing. Whatever the valuation, if it’s over $1 MM, and I bet it is, it’s a waste of cash. Their Alexa rank is average at best.

Message to engineers:
1. Design Web 2.0 site with Web 2.0 name - Shittr, Crappopedia, Pisster
2. Get site featured on TechCrunch, GigaOm, TechMeme, Digg
3. Wait for Echosphere crowd to roll in and roll out a week later
4. Sell to dumb larger company within 6 months
5. Laugh all the way to the bank about your Empreror’s New Clothes scam

Seriously, Arrington, the joke is on you. Why don’t you have any skepticism to anyone except PayPerPost? Why does every crappy company get a free pass?

Sites like stockpickr focus on using the community to help pick stocks, while SteamStreet’s focus is on the organization, tracking and sharing of actual user portfolios. As such, we provide more control in what you share and who you share it with. We also try to organize the site more efficiently than the other portfolio sites like Yahoo Finance’s portfolio tracker, and we provide better information about performance (including portfolio charts, returns, etc.).
