I’m waiting for the day when TechCrunch goes public.
You’re up late tonight Mike :). Me too. Keep the posts coming.
So when is the ComScore IPO. Press release is too short with little information for this major announcement.
Ok here you go. Washington post have some more information about ComScore IPO.
This will hopefully help to improve the web metrics sector…
This will be a flop ipo.
Lets hope for good.
I had no idea there was that much money in web analytics.
Hmmm… Interesting move by ComScore. It will be interesting to watch it closely adn see how it does..
Sorry to say but my first impression was “this is a scam site”.
I think for sure; It will be mediocore at best ;
- will hover around 10-17 dollars, peaking at 30 ….

Why TechCrunch Readers Don’t Like Comscore:
1. Comscore is a real company that makes real money. Surprised that everyone on here is so quick to criticize it. I’m sure Y-Combinator is in the process of churning out a full 20 companies that can generate $60 MM in revenue. Wait, their companies can’t even churn out $6 in revenue but that’s what TC writers and readers love.
2. Comscore, if used, would tell them that their site named Dingl, Wickr, Dink.tv, or JumboMashUp gets less traffic than the Government of Burkina Faso’s official web site.
3. Comscore doesn’t have a dumb name. See Point 2.
4. Comscore doesn’t have an inane blog telling you what kind of organic, gluten-free tofu the CEO had for dinner last night.
5. Comscore is based in Chicago (Gasp! People use the internet in the Midwest?)
What I don’t like about Comscore:
1. Crappy web site. It’s not 2001 guys. This looks like it was made for $20,000 by Shakti Electronics in Pune, India.
What I like about Comscore:
1. They make money.
2. Their founder is a smart guy. He made IRI into a huge business. He gets it.
3. They solve a real problem for web sites with a lot at stake: who is visiting my web site?
To #12: Comscore is based in Reston, VA, about 20 minutes outside of Washington DC, not Chicago
@ 12 Jason
My apologies. Their Chairman/founder is based in Chicago and I checked, you are correct. They have a major presence in Chicago but their main office is indeed in Reston, VA. Thanks for pointing it out.
Hi,
I was surprised to see a web analytics firm go to IPO when google is there. I believe they do more than web Analytics after going over their web site.
FYI : Found that 95 % of the Web 2.0 sites are using Google. A few of them SiteMeter / Coremetrics
Just to point out - ComScore and Google Analytics are two totally different ways of looking at web metrics
GA provides no ‘depth’ to the numbers that they provide
This is another bs. I am in web analytics and the major issue that software/databases can not handled volumes of data and process those in real time…this ‘product’ won’t solve the issue until Vendors like IBM, Microsoft or Oracle or FILE SYSTEMS STORAGE SOFTWARE vendors would provide the base for storage of very large volumes of data that have been received and processed from WEB Logs…but this stock will go up at such hot market and hot ideas of ANALYSIS OF WEB TRAFFIC…. so far 3 major companies suck on it : yahoo(panama), google(bi analytics), microsoft(Ad Center)…..
There’s big big money in web analytics, especially now that you need it to track Search Marketing efforts, PR & PPC Campaigns.
I would love to know how this company makes money. I will just wait to see their fully disclosed audited income statement or cash flow statement.
comScore is comparable to media and marketing research companies like Nielsen Media, not mere website analytics firms like SiteMeter or Coremetrics. I suspect that they’re planning to be acquired via public valution by going IPO or at least get some more attention to themselves.
Sami, good call. Yes, Comscore is much more like a Nielsen or I guess Alexa, and does not really compete with Google Analytics or WebTrends, etc. Though, I would think that those web analytics companies might want to acquire Comscore to be able to provide their customers with more data (demographic & psychographic) about the visitors to your website.
Funny that so few people on TechCrunch know much about a profitable web company with over $60 million in revenue. Maybe they should change their name to comScor or Com.sc.org or KOMscr or something. And of course they need a logo with more of a reflection.
What is sad about my sarcasm is that I work at a web 2.0 company (kind of), but we sell to businesses and have people paying us real money, so maybe it is in fact not web 2.0.
I don’t trust Compete’s numbers… they rely on a toolbar. Who uses toolbars??
Intersting Site ComScore ? what comes up next ?
Have a look at meta rss, some articles and reviews.
regards
Michael
Believe it or not. ComScore is not just a dot com companyand they are not competing with Google. The chairman Gian Fulgoni who used to serve as CEO for IRI used to be one of the biggest marketing reasearch company in the world. Please do some more research before putting negative a comment for ComScore. It is a great company.
By the way, here is thier website and look at who is their client currently. http://www.comscore.com/about/clients.asp
Response to #17. Look like Alex doesn’t know much about marketing research company. Comscore is not just keep tracking the web traffic. It is a marketing reasearch company. Even google, yahoo and microsoft is their customers. Cosmscore is not competing with them. Try to do some more home work before putting an comment to the company.
