Soooo many negative comments, I wonder how many are from successful people, running their own companies, making enough of a living to support themselves and their loved ones?

I hope my webapp is even half as succesfull as Ryans, that would more than double my monthly salary.

pji - Grammar goons tick me off, and only make themselves look petty.

As Churchill once said, when corrected by an equally pedantic fop: “This is the sort of English up with which I will not put.”

The negative comments here are disturbing. I think further proof of Ryan's class and intelligience is given by his respectful response to the ignorant/negative rants that are going on. These hacks are looking for a smack-off and Ryan isn't stooping to their level but rather trying to accommodate them.

BTW, you aren't that tough (or credible) when you rip somebody with an anonymous name and no link back to your site/work. Good work from the sidelines while you are pecking away at the keys from your Mom's basement you bunch of negative web wannabes.

Nice guest post Ryan. Simple yet insightful.

This is a good WEB 2.0 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT.

Ryan's PSA hit a nerver because it is a reminder to use common sense but like any emergency, instinct and survival kick need to kick in.

There are much more detailed posts, and also degrees, on business but I welcome posts that support the original post like #78. BTW, show your face.

I am going through the pricing struggle now on a CRM and business productivity tool that is very effective for actual sales conversion. It's like Highrise and SalesGenius combined but for proposals and pitches.

In the heat of developing, looking for investors, interviewing partners, and surveying beta users it's always nice to hear a PSA.

Techcrunch amazes me. How it can still be so open with all the abuse it receives nowadays sure is a spectacle. You're all animals. You think these aren't real people you're insulting and humiliating?

Just because TC gave a pass on your crappy "companies" doesn't mean you should take out your frustration on the team here. I mean really, you must care so very much to harbour so much anger, and hate.

Why do you care so damn much? Because TC didn't launch your dryass startups for you with that much sought after popularity boost of coverage.

Mike, Ryan - I know the comments must get to you, but never forget what type of people are writing them. And if ever you come across these lame-o's, slap 'em with a fat wad of TC advertising revenue...for me. :)

Why do you care so damn much? Because TC didn’t launch your dryass startups for you with that much sought after popularity boost of coverage.

Mike, Ryan – I know the comments must get to you, but never forget what type of people are writing them. And if ever you come across these lame-o’s, slap ‘em with a fat wad of TC advertising revenue…for me.

To "call me crazy":

I would go even further. Why accept an advice by even a successful person? His advice would be constructed in hindsight, might be his fantasy about what was granting him success. It might be equally invalid as well. The successful person might simply have been lucky.

That's why all those self help strategies (Carnegie, Robbins etc.) are missing an important point. You need to know the numbers! The numbers, how often a strategy fails or succeeds.

Most often you will not get those numbers from winners, losers, and self-help guru's.

pji - "I would have learned the tricks of a bandwagon upon which I’ll never jump": what a torturous little sentence with a floppy metaphor at its centre. No, you cannot start a sentence with "and" in formal English grammar. The fact that you would not read the article on the basis of a grammatical slip-up and yet took the time to leave a comment beneath it, demonstrates a concern more with style than substance. I did not make "multiple mistakes". Surely, the word "multiple" in your comment is redundant given the plural "mistakes"? You are either dismally ancient or irritatingly young: either way, you seem to have an obsession with grammatical "rules" rather than the world of ideas.

Ryan,

The number of responses and their passion means you've hit a nerve. Good job! If everyone that read the article knew how to create a successful company, they'd be basking on the beach, not writing vitriolic comments.
