User Generated Animation Site MyToons Launches

It is our luck to have two excellent user generated animated video sites now live - Israel-based Aniboom and, starting today, MyToons, which just came out of private beta.
MyToons certainly has the edge over Aniboom on design and overall usability, although I found site navigation to be slow this morning. With both sites, users upload short animated films that they’ve created, or have copyright permission to use. Videos are organized by tag, user, most watched, most highly rated, etc.
I love this stuff, and I spent quite a bit of time browsing videos before choosing the one embedded above (although I’m not too sure that particular video complies with MyToon’s copyright policy).
MyToons is also trying to be family friendly, and says they’ll censor out content that would constitute a NC-17 rating in the U.S. If we’re talking about pornographic content, it will be a clear enough line. But if they start to censor out swearing and other fuzzily inappropriate content, the site will suffer.

i dont understand the deal with NC-17? isn’t the service focused at children/teenagers?
There’s no direct link to the site in the post.
^ Seconded… no direct link.
(Except for the artwork section) it would be very easy for YouTube or competitors to introduce a special, even specifically designed cartoon section on their website and MyToons, Aniboom would loose a lot of visits before they even start to grow
Or am I missing a point here?
Forgot to tell: Aniboom is not compatible with my Safari browser.
Ok, Pageflakes isn’t too but there is no hardcore Javascript going on and even if, it should be.
“Your Browser is OLD or incompatible
with AniBOOM.com
If you don’t update it or install a different one(a free and painless proccess)
you won’t be able to view our site in all it’s glory,
and wouldn’t that be a shame?
We recommend you use Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher
or the Mozilla browser”
Is MyToons.com also based in Israel?
lol. That was a great animation.
All this kinda remind me of the Simpson Episode where Bart starts his own cartoon (Angry Dad) and gets published and paid by an Internet startup in share. Of course the startup ends up going bust…
Oh wait, this was web 1.0… my bad…
Remember when you posted about your ability to take down websites? I’m getting a 500 error at the moment when going to http://www.mytoons.com/.
Just to answer one or two of the questions, we think MyToons significant image quality edge will be a key differentiator, and sofar the feeback on that score is gratifying. And no - MyToons is not Israeli, though there are of course MyToons members and animation content from many different lands. MyToons Inc. head office is in San Antonio, Texas.
“Doc”, at MyToons.
Yeah, I havent gotten into any trouble with mytoons.com since i downloaded firefox. The viewer is super-smooth and it should be a good place to meet other people who are interested in or make animation.
here’s why i like mytoons better than youtube for animation:
* i like that MyToons is more streamlined…i’ve always felt a bit overwhelmed by youtube (not that that has impeded their success at all…!)
* the player is definitely better; sharper, bigger, doesn’t restart when you change sizes….
* the ui is a lot more tantilizing than youtubes - it’s like eye-candy!
* but what i like most about mytoons is the fact that it incorporates the community a lot more than youtube (again, not youtube’s shctick, but I enjoy it on MyToons nonetheless). I really enjoy exploring the pages of the artists and their friends…
And, in response to the NC-17 stuff - I think that refers only to pornographic stuff… - but i could be wrong
ok ok - i really must get back to work now…! Thanks for sharing!
