I love your work Michael,

I must say however, it was disconcerting to watch a story by you about the myspace sabotage get 2100 diggs in one day. You write great stuff but the relative value of that story was like comparing "Porky's Revenge" to "Gone With The Wind" in importance.

I am no Digg expert, but just reading the comments to that digg was like being back in middle school. The old southern phrase The Pot Calling the Kettle Black" comes to mind when thinking about these two entities. I have an unlimited supply of these folk truisms: "What's Good for the Goose is Good for the Gander", and so on.

Yah, Digg has no legal ground to stand on. Everything Wired has reported is completely true. Moreover, I highly doubt that Wired’s owners had anything to do with Ms. Newitz’s hard-hitting article...

Private message to Michael:
after submitting my last comment, I noticed that a tag was added to the link I included.
I'd appreciate it if you can correct it and check why it happened.

letting commenters edit their comments might also be a good idea.

Compared with Wired's excessive coverage and scrutiny of Digg, it's interesting to note how little attention it has given to Diigo, which I consider superior to all other social bookmarks/news services given its advanced capabilities such as highlighting and annotation of text (not just bookmarks), advanced sharing and collaboration, and great interoperability with other similar services.

I enjoyed reading Techcrunch's own review of Diigo

Why should you care so much about Digg suing Wired? This article just spews ham-handed altruism. Get over yourself. The fact is your Crunchgear blog competes with Wired's gadget blog, so any swing to knock Wired is self-serving for you.

Digg blacklists sites and hosts cretinous comments. Digg serves itself, distracting from the original site's content.

Digg's nothing more than a vanity site for Kevin Rose.

Michael,

While in general I agree with your article, I find it a bit laughable coming from you. As I recall you wrote an article encouraging people to go to their car dealer and test drive cars with no intention whatsoever of purchasing anything at said dealer, and then buying the car online. Based on that, I'd say that you preaching about the ethics of this is like a whore preaching about chastity.

You mean the stories found on tech internet news sites are influenced by big corporate cash? the internet hasn't changed into one giant sales pitch has it?
and what dose this term "eyeballs" refer to?

Sir, Digg should sue Wired for what? I presume slander, but slander cases are built on the premise that what was said is in fact untrue. If what Wired says is true, you don't have a leg to stand on. What 'impossible situation' Wired has placed Digg in isn't clear from your article.

Whether or not Wired has a right to write their articles, I give you two words: free speech. Thing of the repercussion of a world where a news agency can't say negative things about a competitor. MSNBC, FOX, CNN regularly take swipes at each others. Do you wish to imply that a news organization like CNN can't run negative movies reviews of Spiderman 2 because CNN is owned by Time Warner which owns Warner Brothers which owns DC Comics, a rival of Marvel Comics?

At what point does the information overload become too much, crossing the line from data to noise?...
