和Ning In Full。 The Ning Platform: A Few Updates。 [...]

I've used ning in the past, It's pretty good. I dont like the business model though, paying them to add my own adsense or domain. for that reason, i'll use phpfox or something instead.

I used to be a big Ning fan - paid for all Premium Services, worked hard to bring in people to my Ning network, participated actively in the forums, suggested features, etc. Took me about a year to get totally disappointed. This began to happen when I realized that most features that make a social network "social" were missing - for example, being able to filter and see members by a certain parameter, being able to see who is online now and chat with them in real time, etc. The Groups feature looked promising but was missing key functionality to be meaningful. Ning network creators were asking for the functionality but from some of the responses by Ning employees it became clear that the lack of functionality was purposeful. Ning wants people to be creating more networks, not to grow each network necessarily. Every time I voiced concerns with this approach, all I heard from Ning was "You have access to your code - find a programmer to develop what you need (I am paraphrasing)" ... So much for DIY network creation. At some point, my comments on the Ning forum started to be censored by Ning even though they were not obscene or offensive - just critical. At that point, I stopped paying for ANY premium services and have not put one minute of work to bring people to the network. I am waiting eagerly for another company to learn from Ning's mistakes and offer a better solution and have a more honest approach.
