Reality Check. It took a few months for Writely with 4 members working virtually without office to integrate with Google. Jotspot joins Google on Halloween, end of October. You should factor the productivity you lose in moving office, developers, Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday.

Be reasonable on the expectation on Google integration.

Jotspot will be invited when their JDC and API are ready for public. Jotspot may be holding the Ticket to enter our Matrix from Google Empire as I am sending a strong signal to Google Founders.

My two Jotspot accounts were just upgraded today. When I click on “About this Wiki” I see the following:

Seems like the performance has improved considerably. Or that could be from it being late on a Friday afternoon.

What did google get out of it? – More Users; but the most important aspect is probably –

The people that worked for JotSpot – Google bought the people; primary and the software secondary.

– this seems like a great “Virtual HQ” I loved that phrase when I read it above.

They’re integrating more of their features into a pre-existing platform that’ll re-launch with a new look and more stability. But I don’t think there’s a business model in it just yet. That will grow out of the integration, the Google way

It could become a commercial wiki, sure. But don’t count out JostSpot morphing into something more.

Jotspot allows you to create a fully customizable intranet with spreadsheets, wiki pages, filing cabinets, blogs, and a bunch of other built in apps such as a recruiting manager or a contact manager. It’s also free, secure, has flexible account permissions, and has unlimited storage*. It’s perfect for a startup or a small business, especially because its a collaborative app. Everyone can work together to build up the “virtual HQ.” Find me a better solution with those types of capabilities at a lower cost than FREE, I want to see it. Only a company like Google can offer a package with unlimited storage.

*I was fortunate enough to sign up for an account prior to the Google takeover ahd have been able to use it for my ventures. They gave me a free upgrade to an account that has unlimited everything. I sent them an email inquiring about the unlimited part because I didn’t want to create a bunch of pages only to find out later that I have one expensive service to pay for. They told me that they “do not currently have plans to charge for the unlimited hosting, but as with all things in life, anything is possible.”

Why is jotspot appealing? Isn’t it just a commercial wiki and content management rolled into one? Seems like there’s just as good of solutions … we use free blog (wordpress) and wikimedia at work, and certainly don’t need anything better.

@1: their logo needs to be Googalized, and become a link from Google’s home page. Any possibility of becoming Google Jobs? Gasp!

But overall I used their service 4 months ago and they weren’t all that impressive. The concept is there, but the design, image, and execution definitely wasn’t.

Jotspot is an excellet product, for a while, I thought that they were going to be working on Google platform but looks like they have been busy cranking better features and stabillity for Jotspot platform. We are using Jotspot now for managing our startup project, so we couldn’t be more happy when Jotspot announced that all accounts were upgraded to without restrictions and we were hanging closely to the free account limits.

You know, JotSpot still doesn’t seem like a very appealing service, and definitely not a very profitable one for Google. I just wonder what Google sees out of the whole deal.
