Diego: even if Flock’s “stable” version is based on Firefox 1.5, we’re only doing maintenance on it and actively working on a development version based on Firefox 2. You can follow the Flock blog to learn more about the schedule and have an idea of what will be released when.

I used to despise Flock. I thought it was a very dumb idea. Then, I gave it a second try and I have to say I’m beyond impressed. I use it as my primary browser now, as I can load all of my development extensions from Firefox, as well as take advantage of the much nicer usability and friendliness that the Flock UI provides.

In a few months Flock will realize they have accept way to much VC funding and can never get back on top of their debt. Their best bet will be to alter the Gecko engine and change every AdSense pub ID to their own when a user views a page and run with the money.

I do think we will see it in the deadpool soon, which is a shame. They are still working on top of flawed old firefox code. I never understood how was it oing to be possible to keep a competitive browser: they will always be behind of firefox on the update part… security and such… I don’t know if there can be FF wrapper layer (programatically speaking) which allows them to put any version of firefox under it… keeping up to the version of FF would be easier… but I dunno… just ranting now…

Flock, please don’t die on us…

I really don’t know about the expectations for the revenue model, etc. But the product is great for those that need its specialized functions.

I like Flock a lot, but believe they have a huge challenge still ahead of them as a company. The social space is moving so fast — awefully hard to develop both a sufficiently differentiated [social] browser AND an active 3rd party developer network. Maybe the changes to the team will help them get there?

Could be nothing, of course, but could be something up in Flockland.

Flock is doing great and as Geoffrey says is full steam ahead. We (www.piczo.com) just announced a strong partnership with Flock (http://www.tech....com/tag/Piczo/ ) and are really excited to launch the Flock Piczo edition browser. Flock 1.0 is going to be great and we’re very confident in the Flock team as they gear up to launch.

Did it occur to you that maybe it didn’t fail? Flock is still very strong and the best is yet to come. Geoffrey is a stand-up guy who did some great things at Flock, there will always be thousands of doors open at a thousand companies for somebody like Geoff.

All these Flock bashers are the same people who bash Microsoft for being closed and proprietary, so out comes an open source company doing great work for the community and it still gets bashed. You can’t please the idiots!

Okay, it might not be perfect and it has ways to evolve, but Firefox itself has recognized the need to be “Information Broker” and help channel the user data between services, so Flock’s vision is fundamentally correct.

It is painful to see people rejoice over challenges at startups. Instead of this, we should be saluting the courage and innovation.

However, I’ve always felt that Flock had made all the classic mistakes. Too much money, poor focus on execution, miscommunication with the market, and lack of major consumer demand.

I was a FireFox loyalist, but decided to try Flock because of it’s integration of Photobucket & Flickr….I haven’t looked back. I still love Firefox, and it’s fantastic, but it’s seriously lacking in the web 2.0 integration and optimization. Flock has already integrated so much into the core browser, and intends to do more, and yet still allows for add-ons. Frankly, I don’t see why anyone would assume it’s diving for the deadpool.

In my opinion, there is only one problem with Flock, and that’s the inability to nest bookmarks, which is supposed to be changed in Flock 1.0.

If it’s headed for the deadpool, then bloody hell, it’s going to make one heck of a splash when it dives in.

Everyone is surrounding this project like buzzards in the sky. Why? At this very moment, I believe Flock is more stable than the 5-20 segfault a day Firefox 2.x release.
