Google Acquires Euro Mapping Company

Google announced the acquisition of part of a business called Endoxon, an Internet mapping company located in Switzerland. This deal looks like it’s part technology and part team. The Google blog says Endoxon has developed “compelling technology that will enhance our Google geo products worldwide,” as well as “we’re also excited about having a dedicated team in Europe.” Nothing is being said about acquisition price, or what will happen to the three Endoxon business units that Google didn’t acquire.

Though Google map is cool enough, seems Google still needs to do it better in other countries. So it acquired endoxon. Is this a signal that Google will acquire more map service providers all over the world? I know there are more than a dozen of such companies in China. Surely they are very happy to see this news. Maybe Google will buy one of them soon.

It’s a great move, really - Google Earth/Maps for Europe isn’t as detailed as its US counterpart. I agree with Mike, though - does that mean Google is embarking on a world-wide acquisition spree? They probably won’t start snatching companies up country by country, though, but mapping companies with regional focus could be worthy candidates.
The three Endoxon business units that Google didn’t acquire; Data, Cartography And Direct Marketing :
“The products and services of these divisions will still continue business as usual under a new company Mappuls AG. Visit the new website at http://www.mappuls.ch for more details or send your inquiries to info@mappuls.ch“
Sweeeeet another great thing for google maps
here is one of their product:
http://map.search.ch
Fact: Endoxon had AJAX maps long before Google Maps.
My guess is that Google wants to get rid of DeCarta’s technology (www.decarta.com) who currently provide mapping, routing & local geo-search for Google Maps & Earth. With Endoxon, they will actually own the technology to do this in-house without having to pay usage fees to DeCarta.
Either way, this shows that big G is getting more serious in local search & mapping.
cash daily says something about 35 MCHF. google is still missing local data in varies domains…..have a look on http://www.local.ch!
Another AJAX’d up local maps provider is zoomin.co.nz.
Mjdgard, map.search.ch is not a product of endoxon. We developed this application ourself. Endoxon is our provider for the map images.
It is a nice article.
It is a nice article…?
I bet the people at Endoxon are pretty happy. Wonder what innovations they will bring?
