Yahoo Music Releases Video 3.0

Yahoo Music launched Video 3.0 in beta today. The company sent us the screenshots below to give us a preview of the new video player.

yahoomusic1.jpgVideo 3.0 will have both Firefox and Mac compatibility through flash technology, higher quality video streams, and tailored playlist capabilities. It will also allow users to control the player’s video sequence, much like Yahoo Music Unlimited and, to an extent, LAUNCHcast. There is also a recommendation element where other videos will be recommended by Yahoo.

Yahoo will distribute a media alert about the new player on Friday, at which time we will learn more about its capabilities. But we are certainly grateful for the early look!

That is VERY cool… Hopefully it won’t be a big disappointment like the last Yahoo! update we saw.

Just from the screenshots you can see that they have pushed the video quality up a few notches….great

Great news! Thank you for sharing.
The video quality looks very good, and i hope that the final release will have the same level of quality…
The most interesting is that video drives forward the web2 buzz, giving new possibilities…

It’s great to see the updates that Yahoo! is coming with. All these silently and steadily.

Web 5.0 will let us physically enter our monitors and just walk to different websites. When we reach these websites, we’ll be greeted by the founders of these sites and inside, we can do whatever the website is meant to accomplish. I can’t wait to interact with Mike a la Web 5.0.

Okay, now I’m embarrassed for being told I’ve got bad manners. Sowwy. Let me make up for it by saying I like BEPs song “Humps”. :)

Anyhow, its kinda not cool that they’ve gone for so long without proper Mac / Firefox support on Yahoo Music for so long (even with Flip4Mac the streaming video doesn’t work). I hate having to switch over to my clunky ol’ Windows machine just so I can watch Humps. I’m looking forward to checking out the new version :-D.

This is the funniest comment thread I’ve read in awhile.

The ante has been upped by Google a long time ago. This is a good general response Yahoo…but they have a lot of catching up to do in many areas. I no expert and maybe its already been considered and done but Yahoo needs to make a few strategic well thought acquisitions to even the playing field somewhat.

All that look great, but still what they need at this point is an outstanding brand with which they can integrate all this technology and consequently promote through their portal.

Pretty impressive stuff. It will be interesting to see how they can leverage this video capability to generate revenue… online advertising sales perhaps???

Yahoo is moving it up via Flash 8; Goog is still clining to history Flash 7 and before, video quality is crucial to winning the on-line video wars, Yahoo is moving in the right direction. There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING better then streaming Flash 8 video, it’s like HDTV. Good job Yahoo!

  25. John Richie

absolutely gorgeous! hooray for yahoo! music.

“There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING better then streaming Flash 8 video, it’s like HDTV”

HDTV is at a far higher resolution than online video sites like Google video/youtube can handle (without going broke and pissing off visitors with long download times).

Most video sites I’ve seen encode their videos at around 320 by 240 pixels.

HDTV goes upto 1920×1080 which is a whole lot more pixels.

I like it. It works on Firefox, has built in search that doesn’t kill the video..and rocks!
