[...] Business week has a long article about Yahoo’s Panama project and why it may not have the positive financial impact the company is hoping for. Yahoo’s goal for Panama is to make their pay-per-click advertising program more efficient at extracting dollars from advertisers. The details aren’t important, but the basic idea is that the highest bid on a keyword doesn’t guarantee it takes the top ad spot. A combination of highest bid and highest click through rate determines where ads are placed. That change should bump up the average cost-per-click, and have a positive effect on Yahoo’s revenue. [...]

[...] Yahoo, which has gone through a lot of turmoil lately, officially release Panama to the public. Here is more info from TechCrunch. Panama has been viewed as Yahoo’s answer to better generating online advertisement revenue. Due to the delay of Panama project, price of Yahoo has been punished by the investors during the last couple months. Yahoo next two quarter’s earning result we will be able to tell whether the project is a success. If one believes the project will be a success, it is a good time to pick up additional Yahoo shares as it has dropped around 30% this year. With the internet advertisement continue to take revenue from traditional advertisement, the internet advertisement pie should be big enough for both Yahoo and Google. [...]

I think Yahoo! will have to offer some sort of incentive or revenue guarantees to cause website owners to switch over from Google Adsense - though they can probably get a large number of marketers from the new interface.

[...] Yahoo! (YHOO) - Aside from the fact that Yahoo! is expected to earn 30% more in revenues, the company’s new paid search system, Panama, is being rolled out now to compete with Google’s already burgeoning ad system. Advertising expected to grow 20% annually for the foreseeable future. According to research discovered by seekingalpha.com, Yahoo generates $0.04 per US search vs $0.11 at Google. Panama could definitely help reduce the gap significantly. A reduction of the gap to a more reasonable 30% discount [$0.077 per search] would generate approximately $800M of extra revenues based on the number of searches…revenues generated at no extra cost.
what a funny discussion here, folks...
search advertising works
other forms of advertising work as well
how can you mix a disney movie example (that's BRAND advertising!) with a, say, PPC campaign for travel insurance or a hotel provider? that's a whole different ball game. obviously.

about the topic: i work in a search marketing agency, we deal with 100s of clients, and i run campaigns for them across google, yahoo and msn. and yahoo's system does suck. i do hope the new system will be better (they will roll it out here in the UK in january, to agencies at least)

Huh!? Even if you had a decimal in there you'd still be way off. Surely that was a typo right?

ISG Blog: You can try submitting a request to upgrade. They'll eventually get everyone upgraded, but it's not being done all at once. Creating a new account is a faster way to get in.

Personally, I'm not too impressed with much of the Panama interface besides the geo-targeting. It's still far inferior to AdWords.

What about the advertisers who want an upgrade to their existing accounts? Is the only way to get Panama to sign up for a new account?

Facebook Flyers are the best way to reach college students when and where they pay attention. And now they can have images!

Target only the college(s) you want.

How it works:

Write what you want your Flyer to say.
Select which schools will see it.
Choose how many times they will see it.
Your Flyer will be posted to the Facebook Flyer Board and advertised on other Facebook pages.

For only $5, your Flyer will be displayed 2,500 times!*

* At small schools, we will display your Flyer as many times as possible but cannot guarantee the number of views.

I'm Media report, get your fact right

You're Bernel. MySpace & Facebook are going to help the small business person? Do you know anything about their CPM rates (one was published most recently on this blog if that helps) and CTR? You're contradicting yourself. You're trying to grab PR for cmediatv.com. It's very clear, lump it in with some other very successful companies. Although PPP is a little green, but no doubt they've got a shot at making some money. PixelShrink.com
