I'm looking forward to these features becoming mainstream. Editing will always be a problem with Flash webcam recordings because the audio is proprietary. It's from NellyMoser and the licensing terms are high.

The implementation is flakey--there's no reason for it. Our server (out in January; beta available now) performs both of these functions--record and stream--and it runs rock solid. It's a true RTMP server and will be a lot cheaper than Adobe Flash Media Server.

This video-capture-in-a-web-page feature has been around in other similar video sharing sites since '99. I was wondering when YouTube would get around to including it.

However, their implementation seems very flakey. Out of 4 attempts, I could only get it to work once. Plus it is a *must have* requirement to be able to review the recorded clip before uploading it for transcoding. Without that feature, it's not super useful.

I really enjoy the mood in you2be...I saw a video there about a "hug campaign"..really made me moved. The value of you2be is not their business model, it's the mood of the community....

I just added a video illustrating the use of an attenuator on a guitar amp. That was pretty easy. I even avoided playing Canon in D.

"just make sure you don’t have any copyrighted music playing in the background when you record". To put it mildly, does anyone do this now, or have they added copyright digital signature checking to their software?

"Content recommendation" - this would be tough, but cool. In the end though, it probably wouldn't be a whole lot different than filtering the Top Views Today/Week/etc. by rating/category.

Copyediting Cody's comment:

"a significant impact on the number of _crap_ videos uploaded each month"

The only genre of video that you could conceivably make with this new tool is the jabbering aimless comment or response variety, the multimedia MySpacey crap. It'll just make the good stuff harder to find -- hopefully Google comes to the rescue and implements their search syntax.
