Google has added some new layers to Google Earth. The new layers are part of what is now called the “Geographic Web.”
The Geographic Web is a mashup of content from Wikipedia, the Google Earth Community, and Panoramio, a geographical photo sharing site. As you zoom into a specific location, you can see place marks of points of interest, user-generated photos, and selected Wikipedia articles. Hopefully it will remain uncluttered as content fills in but it appears that Google is only using select information in the Geographic Web from the three user-generated feeds.

They should incorporate data from flagr and platial as well…
Sounds like they are trying to make sure the Ask Local service won’t gain any legs.
Just wait until the Google Earth-dodgeball integration. As if
I smell a zoomer plug real soon
Is it time to close the doors yet?
Clever move, Google
Where is that island at?
This is great! Earth is becoming the most useful travel tool available. I’d like to see Tripadvisor getting their hotel reviews on there all geocoded with the ability to search for highly rated hotels in a specific area. Good one Google!
I think google is doing what UN should be doing. Creating a International Earth Database with photographs and day to day activities af all human beings. A Earth Wiki to be precise. What was the subject of Hollywood futuristic flicks a few years back appears to be happening right now in the Web 2.0.
I’d like to check it out now….but I am using mac, don’t know if it works.

the island looked familiar to me – and indeed i’ve been there a year ago. it’s ellaidhoo island on the maldives. see http://helge.at...s/maldives2005/
ps. at the very location of the beach bungalow the water falls off from 4m to 30m
very nice diving spot!
Isn’t this just a rip-off of http://www.grapheety.com?
It’s interesting how Google gets credit for coming up with ideas that are already well established.
Isn’t it amazinghow much things stay the same as they supposedly change ?
Each of these young upstarts thinks their idea is new , novel and original.
Add some cash and wealth in the mix and it is the old story ” When you are rich they thingk that you really know something.”
Its General Motors in the future all over again.
Cool!!!
I NEED to test it immediately!
Denver Wang, works fine on a Mac. Have to get home though before I can try uploading to Panoramio.
Coolness : http://www.dancclark.com
I like those location-centric services more than Panoramio’s photo-centric design. I have been using Rrove to organize my photos with geographical information. Look at this cool map: http://www.rrov.../us-theme-parks
Interesting development with Google Earth.
interesting!
I love GE~~~
Intriguing…simply intriguing! Its a great time to be alive.

Talk about a + value!
So is Google ready to track every individual on earth yet? The NSA sure would like that!
