@ jose: think about their userbase tho. i mean... generation extrovert (or OL!) is getting very clever these days. they know basic html before they learn algebra. if they are all flocking to a community like piczo it probably won't take long for them to trust in what piczo is offering/recommending.

i remember that it was the (celebutants, professional skaters/surfers/etc, magazines, musicians, random good-looking people, local media big-deal people, models, club/bar owners, promoters) userbase that propelled myspace... back in the day. this is just... the young version.

as i see it... the adolescents will now have their own community and not freak out the grown-up-still-reluctant-to-get-away-from-the-space as much with their presence in the same community.

?

i'm all for it

HARD -- getting a user to truly engage with your Web site
HARDER -- getting that same user to download a toolbar app
HARDEST -- getting that same user to download and use a completely different browser

I wonder what the uptake has been for Flock in the Photobucket deal, if you look at it like an advert, conversion, etc. Regardless, I hope it works out for them all.

How many of their userbase will actually download the browser and use it? I would have to think really hard about adding another program to my computer that I don't need.

Paul, the Flock Piczo Edition will most likely be tailored to make the Piczo experience better, but aims to be a good browser regardless of whether the user only uses Piczo or additional social communities....

Extensions can be so limited.....Also, a minority of people use extensions (or know how to).

Good for Piczo! Better for Flock - they could use a boost. Positioning Flock as a branding platform is a good idea; it has the data hooks in place to deliver value to end-user within a specific brand-context; i.e.: its more than just a visual branding exercise, actually integrating the site with the browser. Perhaps this is Flock's missing business model.

Browser branding is such an old way of thinking. What's to say Piczo users aren't also users of another social service, that has it's own branded version of Flock too?

This is where it doesn't make any sense. There should simply be a Piczo extension for the browser. Anything more than that is confusing for the user.

This looks like a win/win deal for both parties. This is great for Flock and Piczo and ultimately the users of both companies. Nice.

Revenue splits in this arena make a great deal of sense.

Its a very handy tool for social networking sites to - brand - and distribute to its users.
