Update - 6:15 pm: Yahoo released an official statement about the reorganization at approximately 5:45 p.m. The news confirms the resignation of COO Dan Rosensweig and elaborates on the company’s new business focus. Get more details from our update.

Update - 5:11 pm: We are getting real-time updates from executives at the meeting. At least some of the rumors circulating aren’t accurate. No word yet on Semel’s fate or any layoffs. But here’s a stunner: COO Dan Rosensweig will be leaving the company at the end of March. Sue Decker will run finance and “monetization” (sales). More details to come…

Yahoo is holding an internal executive-level company-wide Webcast today at 4 p.m. PST. While we don’t know exactly what will be disclosed, we’ve heard rumors of mass layoffs and a significant management shakeup that probably involves CEO Terry Semel, COO Dan Rosensweig and CFO Susan Decker.

We’ve also heard that there has been a confidential document circulating within the executive ranks at Yahoo showing the new exec organizational chart.

While we have a good indication that this meeting is happening, what we don’t know is that the rumors of layoffs and CEO change are accurate and/or will be announced at the meeting. Our usual contacts at Yahoo were not responsive prior to the meeting. In fact, not a single person at Yahoo HQ is answering their cell phone when we call.

Maybe yahoo is being acquired by Microsoft? or what if they were acquired by google? That would be interesting.

If the rumors are true, they should get rid of Dan while they’re at it.

No I think you have it all wrong, they are going to announce their new PayPerPost model. Yahoo will now pay bloggers to say nice things about their peanut butter-less strategy.

acquisition? I doubt it.
shakeups? Most likely.
Semel Replacement? Maybe, I think they’ll wait until someone is there to take that place. Not sure if someone is 100% there yet.
major announcements as to product direction? i hope so
Borat to become official Yahoo! spokesperson? Very nice!

I just spoke with friends of mine there - they knew nothing about any Webcast. I think it’s just an exec call.

Yahoo is laying off people? Man.. what happened. I thought they were doing really well?

Anyone have stories to tell about their managers? Go to http://www.thebossawards.com

Layoffs = yes.
Restructuring = yes.
Product strategy switch = yes.

The silos and redundancy there are ludicrous. Google has the “throw it and see what sticks” model, Yahoo has the “katamari damacy” grab everything model.

MUCH better headline this time.

2 people who you rarely hear from are jerry yang and david filo. In hard times, I would think that these 2 would have some influence. For a company that has dominated the internet landscape, it’s amazing to see them give the boot to their 2nd ceo.

Ya know if this was the gilded age yahoo, google, and microsoft would already be under the same conglomerate corp.

I heard late last week that the 360° team was fighting for its life. Shortly after hearing that 360° was removed from the featured services list and now has no presence on the homepage. I think as a result of these discussions we will see some internal consolidation of teams that already work closely, like 360° and Groups, and some overlap job elimination.

I think the shake-up would be good. Y! getting fat.

Many, many people who like myself were at Y before and after Dan R’s arrival felt that for whatever reason he was the beginning of the downturn. I predict many smiles and few tears at this news. Unfortunately the massive talent exodus in the last 12 months shows that management waited too long. Ex-Yahoo people are now populating competitors all over the place.

Shakeups are never a fun process. Losing employees, losing jobs.

“…and a significant management shakeup that probably invovles CEO Terry Semel…”

hey, a mistake Yahoo! didn’t make. first person to spot it gets bought buy Google.

hey, a mistake Yahoo! didn’t make. first person to spot it gets bought rye Google.

Can I get some peanut butter with that rye? Make it chunky.

When is the board of TechCrunch, Inc., going to meet? They could use a shake-up, too, or two. TechCrunch has a little Peanut Butter Crunch problem.

They can start by making a few staff changes, killing CrunchBoard and selling off CrunchGear, and getting rid of the annoying Snap site previews. Let’s see.. what else.

(Of course, there’s some sarcasm there. I’m mocking all the people who think any website is community property.)

Wow! Major changes indeed, there have been ugly rumors for the past few weeks. I wonder what the fallout will be for the employees.

“We are getting real-time updates from executives at the meeting. ..” So executives are leaking info. in real-time! Gosh! Yahoo needs to fix this first before firing the rank and file!

THIS JUST IN: YAHOO VIRTUALLY IRRELEVANT IN EVERY MARKET THEY TRY THEIR HAND AT.

MORE AT 11!!

Its interesting that Farzad is mentioned as staying, since he owns Panama.

What is the focus of this Blog?
I thought this was about new products…..what’s Yahoo’s internal org. changes got to do with that..

Dan Rosensweig did pretty good work at Yahoo.

It might be kinda late, but I just want to let it out. Yahoo is BS company with no innovation.
