Israeli startup AniBoom, a Flash video site for original animated short films, officially launches tomorrow, although the site has been live since late September. To kick things off they are holding a $50,000 contest for the most highly rated films - $25,000 to the winner and five additional $5,000 prizes.

Jeff Pulver noted them as well a couple of weeks ago after meeting the founders. The quality of the content so far is excellent, although copyrighted material is showing up on the site already.

One of the currently highest rated films is embedded below.

I see a boom of competitions in terms singing, movies, arts, etc. and I wonder if this is going to be the trend on the Internet.

smart. Animated content is 100% original, and requires a standardized level of expertise to develop. Quality original content + video sharing in a niche. That’s definitely the way to differentiate.

Good video for small children :)

    Interesting. Not for your children.

The founder of aniBOOM is Uri Shena’r, who was a very successful manager in Israeli Television. I wonder whether as a Television insider he has unique understanding that will allow him to compete succesfully, or whether it’s just a symptom of an emerging web2.0 bubble.
    Only time can tell!
