CrunchGear This Week

Big Zune doings over at CG this week. We invited two Seattle readers to hang out with Matt Hickey as well as Bill Gates and his army of winged Zune Monkeys where they ate breakfast, saw a show, and got free Zunes. One CG reader got their own Zune to play with and then we got OUR Zune and proceeded to wait for ten hours while the Marketplace appeared on screen — we still haven’t been able to transfer music to the device. Fancy!

We’ve got someone standing by at the Wii and PS3 launches this week and we’re giving away a T-Mobile Dash to the most creative reader. We also have a new feed which gives you only the posts we deem as “hot,” thereby allowing you, dear readers, to read CrunchGear in a considerably abridged form. Think of it as Readers Digest for blogs. CrunchGear - Making things better… for you!

Now that I see that picture of Zune, I didn’t know until today that Zune doesn’t support Windows Vista. I find that hilarious:

I’m going to take a wild guess and say that the Microsoft PR guys told you to put an ENORMOUS PHOTO of two confused Zune winners on your site. They’re really pushy those PR guys aren’t they.

not as pushy as some TC readers

Seriously, I think I’m going to have a seizure with these “Crunchgear” illustrations soon. In what do they add value, besides taking the whole area above the fold on pageview? All I see is some crazy dude in a car. I’d say less drug-induced art, more content.

The Zune chick is pretty cute. I’d totally let her fund my startup if you know what I mean.

You’d think they would come up with a better name than Zune where are the PR and Marketing guys when you really need them…just shows you that anybody can have a product with a idiotic name.

Jason, I agree with you about the name Zune.

This is hilarious. Zune’s aren’t working correctly, not compatible with Vista, etc.

Also funny how MS is marketing this through the companies they own (such as MSNBC). On the Today Show yesterday, they visually compared the new Zune to the iPod 4G, which was released in 2004! Was it because the 5th generation iPod is better looking than the Zune?

Screenshots from the Today Show comparison on my blog, if you are interested:

Does this mean I can win crunchgear contests because I’m hot? And who’s the guy in the glasses? I’ll enter if he’s involved!
