[...] Michael Arrington over at Techcrunch shined a light on one of the coolest finds I’ve seen in a while. If you’re into customizable homepages (Pageflakes, Google Ig), give Yourminis a whirl. From the makers of Goowy, a flash-based productivity suite, Yourminis is a start page following in the same vein, only instead of Ajax working magic behind the scenes, Macromedia’s mainstay for producing eye candy is turning tricks here.
Where is the desk offline ???

The future is a part online like Goowy / NetWibes... and a part shared on the computer to be used offline inside the Web brower too ? This could be the real revolution !

I've looked over this system here. I think the developers have their heads screwed on tight. It comes across in a friendly manner visually.
The whole engine appears as uncluttered and simple to utilise.
The Photo and resizeable elements are fine here, wonderful. The colours are also excelling and a sadly lacking missing element for those of us who are colour blind.

I think this system has a long life ahead of it; has gone further than most already and wins a 9.5/10 with me.

I get p*ssed off when people who have been psychologically preconditioned to live in their self dug rutts for the better of those who control them (Firefox users???) whinge and gripe when anything threatens its muddy banks.

I get excited when people push the limits & focus on change by walking a couple of years ahead of the rest and come out with 'appetising'.

[...] Also, I saw that TechCrunch has a review up of Yourminis.com. I think my review over on ZDNet is more in depth, but I really like what those guys are doing and it’s very cool to see them get press from the big guys. It’s not so rare anymore to see a Flash application on TechCrunch, but I still enjoy it. [...]

I would love to understand some of the comments a bit more...

1. Jason - what do you mean by it is unusable? I would love to understand this further so we can address your concern.

2. Arifsali - We are adding scrolling in the client this week. Can you tell me what other concerns you have ie holding a lot of feeds in a small space?

Thanks.

[...] There are all kinds of web-based desktops running to and fro out there, and it seems that the web 2.0 world is pushing for an app to be the next killer desktop-on-the-web. It hasn’t happened yet. It may never happen, since everyone has different tastes, and like different things. Another web-based desktop has entered the arena, and made a better impression on me than many of the others I’ve tried. Yourminis.com is a Goowy Media product that is very fast loading, unlike many I have seen. Even though I consider myself to be an early adopter, I still don’t know if I see a good enough value in the service of a web based desktop to use one every day, in a production, hardcore, pick-up-the-gun-and-lets-go-hunting capacity. Yourminis might be changing my mind a bit. The key difference for me is that yourminis bookmarklet adds an Mac expose-like functionality to both Firefox and IE. You can hit CTRL and ~ or just the icon for yourminis to view your page. Yourminis also has the usual modules (or minis I guess) you would find elsewhere, but also some that I haven’t seen at other sites. You’ll find your digg, del.icio.us, Flickr, gmail, .mac mail, iTunes, Amazon, and many more. Looking for as web-xpose, yourminis has it. Not quite a vote for killer app, but it could be popular. [...]

I compared my netvibes with this (plugged in the same feeds) and netvibes still wins hands down. Netvibes hold lots of feeds in short space compared to this service and yes the name is awful. Watch out for a drop in traffic after a few days of techcruch fame.

[...] Yes, over on the IBN we now have 2 people singing the praises of yourminis.com. Make it 3 of us! I just finally took the time this morning to set up my yourminis.com page. I will say this, here is a list of advantages I see to it over Netvibes. This here of course is the original article that Mike wrote, and I’m glad he gave this site exposure. Now on to the 3 things I see as really nice (right out of the box; there are more obviously!): 1. A nice suite of entertainment tools. [...]

[...] I checked out Yourminis after seeing a review of it on techcrunch and seeing a trackback from the IBN network blog. In one word? It’s absolutely-web-two-point-oh-licious. This is awsome! It absolutely blows the competition (Netvibes, Blogline, Pageflakes) away. Maybe because it’s so much more shiny. It’s basically a RSS-feed-reader -widget-supported- desktop. You’re able to choose from and insert a wide range of widgets: RSS readers, iTunes top 10 songs list, Comics, mp3 player, calendar, Podcast (yes, podcast, not “webcast” or “netcast”, screw the Apple lawyer-bots ) feeds and lots more. Remember the old Yahoo! widgets? These looks just like those! The same shiny awesomely rendered widgets. [...]
