It seems to me they are worth peoples time, but it would be good to see some thematic content supporting the weight-loss subject. There are times where a diet will simply not do, and a user could use information on the options there are specially for people in severe conditions -such as morbid obesity.

I currently am involved in a project offering bariatric surgey procedures in Costa Rica (see direct link at http://www.costaricaweightlosssurgery.com), and would look forward to see sites involving user created evaluations and comments on past experiences in relation to the multiple surgical options out there in the health care market available as a solution for medically-required weight loss programs.

Would greatly appreciate any pointers towards any related sites.

Kind regards,

Max

I think these guys are onto something - great name. I think a site where users/dieters were able to share tips, secrets - successes/ failures would be awesome. Diettrade.com seems like great place to start...

If you are interested in the scientific evidence either for or against the various ingredients found in weightloss supplements check out the supplements page. I've been reading various research journals to give you the most up-to-date information on the ingredients found in the most common weightloss pills.

I actually started using dailyplate on monday after googling "diet web 2.0".. (somehow it hasnt been covered enough for it to have hit my radar otherwise).
I'm glad i found it.. it could still use some improvement, but its fantastic!

This is lame,
To lose weight, cut your calories, eat more protien and increase muscle mass... it's not very hard.

Tracking can be done on fitday.com

Well, Bluefly has done pretty well as a company I believe, and I'm sure its email marketing database is gigantic from years of girls trying to win manolo blahniks in their give aways. it's probably a good base for launching something like this.

I am more excited about DailyStrength - what a cool idea. Patient feedback has been big in medicine for the past few years, for predicting outcome or seeing how patients are responding as a whole to treatments, etc. I would think a site like this could make money through advertising and then also through gaining information for the medical industry to process and use in analysis. Pretty cool!

James, thanks for mentioning http://www.SparkPeople.com. Over the past year we've integrated a Web 2.0 type features with our weight loss tools to improve the effectiveness of online diet and healthy living community (including being completely free unlike other major online diet websites). With almost 1 million registered users we've managed to fly under the radar of most Web 2.0 focused news sites/blogs.

ThinkThin:

You mentioned your desire to keep focused on your dieting goals. Check out www.wellnesschoice.com. Again, a disclaimer, I started this company, but the whole purpose behind it is to help people stay focused on their wellness goals in the areas of weight loss, smoking cessation, stress management. We sell audio programs that are designed to do just this - keep you focused on your goals - and they use your name throughout the program to keep you engaged. Check it out, and post a comment on the blog I just launched.

Diet Television sounds interesting. Can't wait 'til they come out with that voice recognition program that will tell you what to order at restaurants...

Peter - you might also check out sparkpeople.com - sparkpeople is a free site with a great community, that offers a great deal of choice when working with your fitness and nutrition.

As for diet television - I didn't get that much from the site. Even worse, after adjusting all the little sliders, if you choose a diet and then click the back button, all the sliders are reset. Bad form!

Check out TheDailyPlate.com Peter. While it isn't focused on restaurants directly, it is a diet and fitness site that relies heavily on users for the content. Of course as a disclaimer, I work on TDP. We've been going for about a year now and the users do indeed do much better with a community there to support their goals.

DietTelevision is interesting, as there are so many different diets to pick from. It might be useful for some people if they really are looking for a more structured program.

It doesn't seem very Web 2.0 to me either.

What would make it Web 2.0 would be if users could have an account where they jot down notes on diets they have tried, could track their weight, could post reviews of restaurants/take away services and the like and how they fit with their diet.... etc etc.

Make it possible to add content from your cafe seat via email/Blackberry/SMS and now you're really talking 2.0.

are you shitting me? this site is a ridiculous pull out ad from a magazine converted to a web site....there are so many outstanding nutrition and exercise type sites out there, why even bother with a review of (basically) the south beach diet with or without exercise crap?

again, another not-a-moneymaker site that looks much more like a content page/slice for some other site...a feature, not a standalone, and looks like that's what they're going after...

when are you gonna give us some simple voting tools on this site for your companies so we can clearly give 'em all thumbs up or down?
