[...] I know that normally when you think of SpaceShipOne you think Microsoft because one of its co-founders help create it. This time SpaceShipOne actually has to do with Google. Google purchased a full scale replica of SpaceShipOne on October 18, 2006. This will be intsalled in building 43 of the Googleplex, in Mountain View. Larry Page, one of Google’s co-founders was on the board that sponsored the competition to build the spaceship so I guess it is fitting that theres a replica at Google. Techcrunch was the first site to officially report this. Sorry about my delayed post though.
[...] Marc Canter says of Michael Arrington’s Google-SpaceShipOne replica blog postings: “Who the fuck cares about that bullshit!” I had a similar, albeit much tamer, question when I read these postings on TechCrunch over the weekend but the answer seems pretty obvious to me. First of all, based on Michael’s history of posting, I can tell that he’s no Google fanboy so I’m pretty Michael didn’t post this because he wanted publicly adore Google. So the reason he’d post something like this is simple — it was a Google-scoop in a world where everyone loves the latest kooky Google story and a scoop like this, if successful, promises to bring with it lots of great link juice, potential mentions in offline publications and, ultimately, lots of readers. And, again I don’t know Michael personally, but from the few times I’ve talked to him and heard him speak, if there’s one thing Michael does care about, it’s increasing his readership.
Michael Tanne, re the registry number.... It would not be a replica if it did not replicate the registry number on the side. The replica hanging at Meadows Field Airport in Bakersfield, CA also has the registry number. There's another replica at a museum in Wisconsin which also has the registry number. Nothing to see here. Move along.

This a fine thing to spend money on when you PE is 67 and a market cap of $140 billion.

Of course if the PE drops to something more normal investors might see this as a bit of a boondoggle.

Ok...now I *really* have to work there. My favorite art in my living room is a copy of the X-Prize poster signed by the artist, Pat Rawlings, when the X-Prize was first announced years ago. I can see why Google added the replica as it's just inspiring to be working along on projects and look up and remember that hey, we are just at the beginning of space exploration and new ideas *are* possible!

Congrats.....

[...] While it must be nice to have so much money that people start wondering if you’re going to buy a space shuttle, one wonders when Wall Street will ever start asking real questions about a company where up to 30 percent of their revenue stream might be fraudulent — that is, not just fake, but open up to litigation.
