[...] I doubt Google is focused on video and search is no longer important, but it seems rather idiotic to not offer a search box for the RSS feeds. They’ve got the data, they’ve got the search engine, it just doesn’t make sense for Google. [...]

INTERNET NEWS & NOTES

Web Site Created To Connect Communities
(NAPSI)-There's good news for Internet users who find searching for information about their interests can be time consuming and frustrating.
A free search engine and interactive Web site has been created. Its purpose is to connect people with their local and interest-based communities and provide only the most relevant search results based on a user's search parameters.
Called iPoste.org, the site collects timely news feeds and provides a forum for posting classified ads, jobs, calendars, real estate listings and user comments about specific areas of interest-at no charge and on a single Web page. The site is said to organize and display timely information by city or zip code, free of pop-ups and other commercial distractions.
According to the site's manager, Dave Collins, it's a place where people can easily and efficiently find and post all sorts of useful information about a specific topic, either locally or nationally.
To learn more, visit the Web site at www.iPoste.org.
A new Web site is said to offer a snapshot of timely information about your community-with the click of a mouse.

..Just some thoughts to often repeated questions about why Google acquiring Youtube would be a bad deal:

Google already has a service, why not build up the existing one?

_Technology-Google video has been around much longer than YT yet there is still significant latency in consuming their video. Eventually they could probably figure it out but we're on Internet time folks..

_User Base-YT has a user base that has rocketed as fast as the Google share price. For Google to get where YT is at, not only would they need to drastically improve the user experience of there existing svc but, more importantly, they first need to figure out how to deliver immediate, instant gratification as YT does. As many have seen, Google has not had much success developng a good user experience outside of the core Search functiionality

Why would Google take on all the legal/copyright issues that plague Youtube?

_the popularity of YT, imo, is the access to all the homemade videos put up by milliions of people from war coverage in Iraq(fyi, which is pretty graphic) to some kid in hell's kitchen singing his heart out on a rickety keyboard. The copyright stuff that so often mentioned is just icing on the cake...

What do the deals with Sony et al foretell?
_it's a vote of confidence, imo, by those who believe in this new distribution method

Btw, i don't work nor own shares of Google. I do, however, like what they've done to change the business landscape in terms of mindset and what it means to create value for people--not just to dominate and beat down others like the boys in Redmond have done.

[...] Rumors have surfaced that Google is in talks to purchase YouTube for an estimated $1.6 billion. Google’s own video site, Google Video, ranks a distant third in the ‘online video’ segment (MySpace Video is #2), with YouTube dominating the top position. YouTube streams 100 million videos per day — everyone would love that kind of traffic and eyeballs; the advertising revenues that could someday explode from that are incredible. But everyone is wondering how Google can even consider buying this copyright-infringement machine (a la Napster in the late 90’s) and expose their cash reserves to lawsuits. [...]

Take time to read the zdnet post titled "Gillmor’s gesture to Mr. Mike "
http://blogs.zdnet.com/micro-markets/index.php?p=519

FWIW, this jus maybe a Smoke Screen and Mike fell for it :(- in todays world its called a "sanctioned counter capital market intelligence initative" - somebody was told to leak info which is project a "postive" , but in reality it could "negative negative" -everything being deflective away from the main strategy !!

Oh well, lets see.. goog's has the Q3/ earning declaration on the 19th !!

Cuban's issue is copyright and he is right about that. But to say this is the power of YouTube is an overstatement. Think LonelyGirl15... there is a lot of original content on YT and more every day. The way I look at it, Google paid $900 million to own the ad space on MySpace. I think YT is shaping up to be as much as community as MySpace. So for $1.6 B they can own it. They have, what, $10 billion in the bank. They have stock value of what? Why not do this deal.

Why did the WSJ and the NYT need to contact you. The way journalism is going down the toilet these day, didn't all they have to do is read you unsubstantiated blog posting and attempt to disguise it as investigation? Or did you have information you chose not to blog about? Afterall, wasn't it you that basically suggested in your original post that this was more rumor than fact?

[...] I mentioned in passing, in this post, my theory on leaks. You see, in this post I used the figure that 50% of all leaks are authorised by the company involved as either a way to talk up/ hype a launch, or as a way to market test an idea or product. I used that figure because I thought it would be close to tangible, in that it would be hard for many people to argue with it. However my gut feeling tells me something else. I actually really think that the figure is 90%, but I can’t prove it, and I think that this whole Google/ YouTube negotiation stuff fits into the 90%. It’s controlled. Way to controlled. I don’t for one second believe that somewhere along the communications chain that some one has leaked without authority. Case in point: the b5media VC funding. Sure, we are only small fry, but get this: we told all of our bloggers hours before it became public. Of 90 odd people, none of them leaked it. Sure, Google is a whole lot bigger again, but Google employees are loyal. So to are their lawyers. So to would be the Youtube inner team and their lawyers. Mark my words, they would have swarn everyone involved to a strict cone of silence. The chances of someone leaking is about 1 in 10, so it’s not impossible, but 9/10 chance it’s unlikely, which is why I totally think the Techcruch rumour is true. Some one got the green light to leak this news, so that Google could see how the market would react. And hence, after days of free market testing (feedback) Google now has a decision to make. On what I’ve read, if they thinking about buying YouTube, they will. Sure, there’s been some negative stuff, but hey, no one really knows who Mark Cuban is outside of the United States anyway!. It’s a developing story, but one that will no doubt end up as being one of those stories that will last 20-30 years in folklore [...]
