[...] Yesterday Google posted the yearly stats for the Official Google Blog. Not bad - 294 posts, 7.6 million unique visitors and 15 million page views. Technorati ranks the Google Blog as the 16th largest among all blogs, and it is by far the most popular official company blog. Just one accidental deletion and a couple of hacks added a bit of spice and drama. [...]

[...] The Recent google security issues, can seriously harm the company’s repute regarding the security. Today an internal emplyee wrote a post on official Blogger Blog instead of her own Blog. Earlier this month the anonymous post on official blog, deletion of google official blog, posting on wrong blogs and the gmail hacking issue. All this stuff should not come from a company like google, they should be more concerned about security and integration of products than releasing a stream of products which they have doing the entire last year. More details here [...]

[...] When you’re as big as Google, of course someone is going to try to hack you. The temptation for the “little guys”, though, is to think that you’re safe, because nobody would care about you when they could take a hack at the likes of Google or Microsoft. That’s simply untrue, however. According to a July of 2005 report by the Small Business Technology Institute and Symantec, their study of Small Business information security found that 56% of small businesses in the previous year had had a security incident. The more technology businesses adopt, the more open they are to “incidents”. Most of that was due to virues, spyware, etc., but not all of it. The person that hacked Google’s blog didn’t apparently do much other than post a fake entry with plenty of misspellings. You can see it at the following blog site (Techcrunch), since Google took it down fairly quickly: Strange Things Afoot at the Google Blog [...]

[...] The official Google Blog got hacked last night. A bug in Blogger enabled an unauthorized user to make a fake post on the Blog, claiming that the companies was going to discontinue their AdWords click-to-call test. This isn’t the first time Blogger interferes with Google’s official blog, so it’s a bit silly. Some people were a bit too quick in pointing to HOAX we think though. Which, btw, isn’t a very good joke. [...]

Sounds like a Chinese hacker who did not have a good command of english. He/she probably typed in the announcement in Chinese into the Google translator and simply copy and pasted the english translation (including the disclaimer) straight into what ever hacking program he used. . .

The bug that was used to hack Google's blog is not a Blogger specific bug, it is a bug in RSS and MetaWeblogAPI. All blogging platforms that support the two are vulnerable including Blogger (now fixed), Wordpress, and Typepad. Currently no details on how the bug works have been made public and there are no official patches for it.

dude - you missed the point. security. security. security. or lack thereof. the deletion of the blog is irrelevant. someone being able to hack into my blogger and find unpublished posts, post stuff in my name, possibly gain greater access to my personal data, by which to further compromise my email, etc., and then everything in my email, which will have the goods on hundreds of people/companies/etc. wow.
