Skype Video For Macs Launches Today

Skype is launching Skype Video for Macs today (look for version 2.0 on this download page). Skype Video for Windows has been available since last December.

We haven’t gotten our hands on the software yet, but this will not require two downloads like the July beta version, and will hopefully have some level of stability.

Now if they could just add a very simple call record feature to Skype, our podcasting lives would become much, much more pleasant…

    That’s very interesting move .. do anyone know how to contact the owners of skype? I really like this program. Once again tech crunch makes the first move on a news. Brilliant.

    $10,000 per each of the six ads = $60,000 per month.
    $60,000 x 12 months = US $720,000 revenue from JUST those six ads per year.

    Not bad, not bad.

    I use Skylook (http://www.skylook.biz) to record on windows, maybe we could convince Netralia to port their code in some form to the Mac :)

    I have been using skype for other features but never tried skype video.. just downloaded this..let me try it out

    Look for Call Recorder from Ecamm…

    Mike, we’d all love Skype to build in recording, but are you waiting for that before doing more TalkCrunch podcasts? I thought they were terrific but then you just stopped doing them, until most recently with the Kiko one. I hope that signifies that you’re starting back up.

    Mike:

    I’ve be a long time fan of your site, and your writing, and sympathize with what you’re trying to do… But, as people are quite rightly pointing out the ads are just getting out of hand. It’s honestly quite a large disincentive to wanting to drop by TC for a visit… I’d rather get my news elsewhere.

    Please reign in your thirst for more & more and be reasonable (and one might argue kind) to your audience.

    Mike has agreed to take down the ads, but will now require you to pay $10 per self-righteous comment. It’s part of the whole Web 3.0 movement where web companies actually try to make money.

    I love skype video! I thought skype has the record feature because in Second Life I record in skype, but it is 3D. Why not have skype record in video? I know they have the tools to do so. The real question is when will we be able to record video in Second Life with skype? I am working on it.

    To the haters: Michael is simply directing you all to an amazing feature, you should be thanking him.

    I don’t mind the ads as long as they are off to one side. The ad that’s appeared in the middle of this story are a little bit much I think mainly because of the increased page length and the fact it’s a little too ‘full on’. Regarding the quality of the site and CrunchGear – I don’t think it has changed one bit, and personally I think they complement other readings quite well.

    The quality is still great as are the reviews that have been written on this site. I think some of the criticism that is directed at Mike is often misguided & undeserving considering that writers, researchers, getting into press reviews, flying across the country side and paying for events is neither free nor cheap and when you multiply this across countries for UK and Japan and then across their respective writers etc – it goes up exponentially.

    Either way – I some think that the ad comments are fair enough regarding the AOL ad in the middle of the story – not so sure about the others. ;)

    I’m not sure why the ad is sort of hovering there in the middle of the page. It’s supposed to be between the first and second post, and technically it is, but it doesn’t look right. We’ll work on that.

    i don’t disagree - i feel like the quality of TC itself has remained very high, entertaining and topical. i read it every day. IMHO, CG has yet to get to the same level of quality - maybe it will get there, but i simply do not find it very compelling.

    re: ads, i’m fully accept a site owner’s desire/need to make money, but that doesn’t make obnoxious ads any less annoying to the reader. this comment is obviously not limited to TC, but i’ve always hope for a higher standard of consumer focus here.

    oh well.

    i still have full respect for mike and this site, but remain skeptical of the empire being built around him. that’s just my $0.02.

    I’ve created an online version of a Skype Call Recorder: http://www.Scodor.com. It is platform neutral, so if you have Skype, you can use it. It works with phones, too, but the quality is much better when using Skype.

    Regarding all the comments about ads, personally I don’t even see them because the content of the articles is so strong. Keep up the good work.

    Gizmo Project has built-in call-recording feature. Cheaper than Skype and at least for the overseas calls I’ve been doing back to the states while I’m in Europe, the quality is noticeably better.

    I’ve been using it daily since July and havn’t noticed any issues. Does the full version have any upgrades or new features that the beta didnt? I’ll have to download it tonight and test it out.

    Mike, if you want easy call recording on the Mac, use iChat AV with GarageBand. That gives a separate track per speaker, which make the post-recording level balance, EQ and editing much easier.
